Cat. Food. Pending Disaster.

We finally had rain Saturday night, turning to snow on Sunday. It snowed into late afternoon but the ground was too warm for it to stick. We really needed some moisture and we can certainly use more.

Gatto checked the kindling box and found it empty. He was shocked.

I made pizza for dinner. The crust was really light. I used semolina and white whole wheat and I will remember this for the next time. Quite good.

We have been trying to maintain a sense of balance during these very trying times. It is really an impossible thing to do as the chaos is like a snow ball rolling down a hill. It gets larger and larger as it swallows everything in its path. I've shifted my focus from the Fearless Leader to those in the population who feel what is happening is a good thing. Perhaps someone can enlighten me, for as I see it, had Harris won and proceeded to do the exact same things, I would bet the farm there would be an outcry of rage from the very people who are now supporting the authoritarian edicts coming from the Oval Office. Give one of the many illegal and unconstitutional acts a thought. The large amount of unemployment this administration is bringing about through DOGE. Have you heard of the domino effect? I think it's safe to say if you haven't you will be experiencing it sooner rather than later. What happens when hundreds of thousands of people suddenly are unemployed? In a consumer economy? Think about this for a moment.

I've tried to stay away from this, but it just doesn't seem possible to do that anymore. Now he's telling Europe they cannot use DEI.

  1. I've had a sense of doom and gloom for quite a while. I wonder if the next time I call the social worker from the VA..if she will be gone. I wonder if the hospice chaplain and our hospice team will suddenly disappear leaving us in a horrible limbo.
What happens to those in nursing homes who depend on aid?
How long can our rural health clinic and hospital survive?
All the big corn and bean farmers are now wondering how they are going to farm their 1,000's of acres. It just keeps me ... as you said snowballing into a disaster. Are we headed for a country where you can be snatched off the streets for criticizing the gov't?

This administration said they'd make things better. Huh.
I see only a horror show emerging.

    Sorry.
I'm going to go out and dig up some dirt now.

    1. Val, you have just brought up a valid list of consequences it seems are being ignored. Why it isn't apparent to so many is stunning. This isn't red vs blue. This is freedom vs authoritarianism. Right in front of us, no pretending.

    2. It is common to think..."It cannot happen to me.." Until it does.

  2. The world is so crazy these days. It's good to see the little good things to try and stay sane. I appreciated your pizza photo. Looks delicious. I got a carpet cleaning this weekend and it makes my home feel much nicer.

    1. Yes, nick. But the pets will also be facing the consequences if this doesn't stop.

  4. One step at a time. One breath at a time. My heart bleeds for the people he kidnapped and sent to a slave prison with no due process. I can't sleep at night thinking about these poor men and women. I wonder how this will affect all our health. The constant fear and stress.
How can you defund food banks? Just how? And medical treatment? And veteran care? Just how?

    1. Miss Merry, I read an analysis of how they chose who they are grabbing. Short version....clothing and tattoos. No due process, no opportunity to defend themselves at all. Eerily familiar.
There are many more hard hearted people in the US than I thought. They don't care until it hits them. Which it will.

  5. The farmers were counting on Trump bailing them out like he did last time, and it looks as if he will. The rest of it is scary. I don't post about it, but I spend a lot of time keeping up with what is going on. There are signs of hope, but if they amount to anything it will take a while. Fingers crossed!

  6. Gatto loves that box! We will get rain and snow starting tomorrow...hopefully we can get to Fargo for my appointment and back again before the worst of the Winter Storm hits on Tuesdy night and Wednesday. April Fools is no joke when it comes to a snow storm...one year we got 18 inches of the wonderful white crap on April 1st.

  7. No snow here, but possibly tomorrow. We could get rain, ice, and/or snow. A bit up in the air.
Your pizza crust looks tender yummy!
The snowball is so stressful. I am soul-weary.

    1. We do need the moisture, Rita. I think this was the best crust I've made. I am also soul-weary. That is a good description.

  10. As you know, I have not been keeping my mouth shut. Sorry, I can't spend time with "friends" who think what is going on is ok. It reveals who they are and our values are very different. I can't believe something can't be done to give due process to those who have been imprisioned and are not part of the gang! How can anyone with a heart take food away from children, destroy the education department, be blatantly prejudiced and pull the rug out from all Americans? There is a lot of action in our area...so many people are on board. This is not the time to stick your head in the sand....it's not going away without us. Time to stand up. The world knows what we are dealing with and we are going to end up being an island that is on its own. I have never witnessed so much evil and incompetence. No one will want to come to this country. The Rs in congress need a good kick in the a$$ to stop this from getting any worse.

    1. I know you have a difficult time expressing yourself, Lori!! I love that. My remaining hope is that the powers that be in corporate corner offices are seeing, which I understand they are, the danger to their profits in what is happening. The pushback from there can have effect. John Roberts is all about corporations and money, so this may be what tilts him away from allowing this guy to do whatever he wants. It may also motivate the few remaining Republicans not entirely in the mania.
