We've had rain. Glorious rain. It rained all day, a nice, steady soaker. We really, really need it. The iris and daylily are emerging and leaves are budding. We may soon have Spring!
I have a large ham bone I will make stock with today. Stock for ham and potato soup. We still have soup weather. I try to keep occupied with the workings of life, keeping the chaos around us at bay. Baking bread, cooking good, simple meals, watching my flower beds emerge from slumber, that's my panacea. Not a cure but a help. Also visits from old friends!

Yes, the daily round cab be a good anchor under stress. And that shrimp doesn't hurt.
ReplyDeleteIt can be, Boud. We need an anchor.
DeleteCab?? Can, dangit.
ReplyDeleteKnew what you meant!
DeleteThe chaos seems to be increasing every day, it must be hard trying to shut it out and carry on with your normal daily life.
ReplyDeleteIt is, nick. It's also hard knowing will get worse. The results of all this arbitrary staff cuts will start to become reality in another month or two.
DeleteThe rain missed us. :( Glad you got a good soaking, though.
ReplyDeleteDaily chores keep things normal. :)
There's more rain forecast for several day. Perhaps you will get some of it. I don't know what normal is anymore, Rita.
DeleteI find it interesting that although Minnesota seems to have more severe winters than Eastern Ontario (around Ottawa), spring seems to come a little sooner.
ReplyDeleteSpring in Minnesota is unpredictable, AC. Sometimes we have snow in June, other times things are blooming in late April. That doesn't happen often.
DeleteI love this post, Sandra! I truly enjoy our little community of bloggers and seeing what folks are up to. Your food, yum.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ivy. I enjoy this community, too.
DeleteGood to hear you got rain, we nay get some on Monday, we are really dry so it would be most welcome!
ReplyDeleteWe are supposed to get more throughout the week, Far Side, so there should be a chance you get it too.
ReplyDeletethat looks delicious! and yes, you are right. Hanging on here too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, e. It’s a rough time.
DeleteKeeping the Chaos that surrounds all of us at bay is a full time job these days. I'm glad you have your panacea.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is, Dawn. I have to visit you again. I've been sort of uncentered for awhile.
DeleteI am hearing the chaos ... I know it is coming to touch our lives. I feel uncertain, as if I am re-entering the COVID era. Weird right?
ReplyDeleteWatching my flowers poke up from the barren looking dirt does make me feel better.
The spring flowers in the woods are also greeting me. So I must go visit with them.
It's impossible not to know about the chaos, Val. It's something every day. I know it will touch us, too. It will touch most of use in one way or another. It will roll right over millions if this continues.
DeleteYou have your woods and all it offers to calm the nerves and breath.
You made me think of lentil soup. I usually add ham to ours. And carrots and celery and now I'm drooling on my keyboard.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Felonious Chunk, I believe that people who have a malignant narcissist or facsimile thereof in their past are suffering from post-traumatic stress and it makes it so much worse.
'My' kids and I have had many discussions about life in general because of course his filthy countenance is all over the news and they see it, too.
We have gently arrived at the conclusion that there are things in the world we cannot control. And there are things we *can* control. We can't make other people be nice, be fair, treat others with respect. But we can choose that path. No one can take those choices from us.
It does seem to help them feel better. Doesn't do so much for me, but I do keep a happy face for them.
Felonious Chunk!!! I have a difficult time accepting I have no real control, Ami. Collectively, we do. We just need to figure out how.
DeleteIt's the best!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had some gentle rain...we could use some here. That shrimp dish looks delicious. I've always been a tragic optimist (Viktor Frankl) and Stoic, so focusing on things under my control is my go-to. Things are getting so ridiculous that he's losing support, hopefully that will help some before they tear everything down.
ReplyDeleteOptimism and I have only a slight acquaintance Cheerful! He is losing support. Fast.
DeleteThat looks to be a Louisiana inspired bowl of goodness
