Amazed

We went into Mound yesterday to pick up a few groceries and stop at the hardware store. The hardware store has a small nursery over the summer and I was going to look for a few annuals. When we pulled in the sign said 'All Plants Are Free' I read it several times, not believing my eyes. There were several people loading up carts and I joined them.  I was so surprised, I never have seen such a thing. Mark surmised they decided to give what was left away rather than dispose of it. It's a locally owned store. I'm going to write a thank you note. With mean, rude, greedy behavior being normalized, this was a real beacon of light.

I'll attempt planting my bounty today. It's already hot and humid so we will see how long this wilting flower lasts.

We all know by now the big beautiful budget bill passed the Senate. It will sail through the house and then the reality of what this administration is all about will start to hit those in states that are solid MAGA. We will all feel it, but there are a number of states with high poverty levels who depend heavily on federal money. That's all I have to say. Except I experienced personally that there is still good among us.

  1. I live in California so, inasmuch as Donald Two Dolls, hates California, I'm expecting, in this big beautiful bill, we'll lose what federal monies allow for what low-income housing we're benefitting from here on the complex. My voodoo doll needs to come through and do its worst sooner rather than later.

    1. It's pretty much a given he will target California, Shirley. Get to work with those dolls.

  2. What a gift to the community! Hope you were able to take home and plant some beauties. I am very curious about the status of T cases that have gone to court. What was the end result? What has happened to all the immigrants that have been picked up? How can we find that information?

    1. I think the cases are back to the Federal courts as the so-called Supreme Court bunted. Other than that, I don't know either, Lori.

  4. I love the free flowers thing. What a kind gesture. My elderly mom got a bunch of flowers a couple weeks ago and her deck was making her soooo happy as she sat and looked out the window. And over the course of about three nights, the deer ate all her flowers. So now she's going to get some deer off spray or whatever they call it and try that on some new flowers. I wish her luck, deer are hungry critters. She has a 6 foot fence.

As for dumald's bloated bullshit bill, it doesn't take effect until after the midterms, at which time those fuckers are going to try to blame Biden and the Democrats. And people will fall for it.

    1. The deer don't bother my plants Ami. I think there is enough other things for them to chow on. The bill goes into effect January 1, 2026. Before the election.

  5. Free plants! I hope you show us where you planted them. What a nice and rare thing to come across. Generosity!!
I also heard that a lot of this bill was arranged to go into effect after the midterms to try to save their positions, of course. Cowards.
But....free plants!! There are some good people in this world.

  6. What an amazing offer. I suppose better give them than compost them.
I'm hoping the midterms will see a different House and maybe even Senate.

  7. Free plants!!! How wonderful and generous!
I think a lot of people are going to be surprised when cuts hit them. If you have a family member in a nursing home or a child with a disability, this is going to be major. Lots of the costs are part of Medicare and Medicaid even if you have insurance. Nursing homes are already operating on a shoestring. If they start closing, along with rural hospitals, it will get bad quick.

    1. I was so surprised it stayed with me all day. A beacon of thoughtfulness, Miss Merry. Many people don't know that Medicaid pays for nursing home care. Medicare only pays for, I think, 3 months. The horrid administration is unlawfully withholding funds already allocated by Congress for schools to provide summer and after school programs, funds which trump signed off on in March. Rural and poor states will be hit hardest.

  8. It's hard to keep track of all the hideous things. Alcatraz in the Swamp and the image of alligators wearing ICE baseball caps is the one that keeps going through my head. https://jimacosta.substack.com/p/a-gulag-in-the-swamp-and-medicaid?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fb3fe59b2-c0b6-4215-82a0-57c384325b39_806x793.jpeg&open=false

I do hope you will take and post photos of your new plans. What a kind gesture from your local business not only is it nice for people but for the plants, too.
    Take Care,

    1. Yes, e. The Billionaires need more money. I was kinda stunned by the give away.

  12. I love that they gave them away. I wish more stores would do that. The one garden place (Home Depot), the guy told me all the seeds, they just toss them. Instead of lowering the price or anything like that, they get junked. That blows.

  14. That was a nice surprise, lots of free plants! More stores should give away unwanted plants rather than throwing them out.

  15. The generous Free Plants by the small business is a bright spot, small business is usually the most generous and the obscenely wealthy Billionaire companies are the most greedy and exploit their workers. The whole Bezos Venice sham of a Wedding was a vulgar display of that whole class of wretched people.
