Sweltering

I know I have mentioned this before, but twice is nice, right? In March Denise put up a recipe for this soda bread. I make it all the time. It's the best soda bread I've had. Yes, I still make yeast breads, but this is a constant. Mix it, form it, bake it. Ta-dah.....bread. Not only bread, but good bread! If anyone wants the recipe let me know and I'll send it to you.

It is still tropical in the (former) land of the polar bears. That was my high school mascot. We were the Polar Bears. Go Polars! That's a thought blast from the past. Today we have an extreme heat warning with the heat index of the low 100s F. I don't think there will be an oven on today.

Frieda knows how it's done. Simply spend the day lounging on poppos desk and chill.

    1. Yes, it will be in the 80s. I would like to lose the humidity, Far Side.

  2. I keep waiting for that one tolerable day this summer.

  3. We have maybe had a couple, Miss Merry. I can't get anything done outside, which is bothering me.

  4. Yesterday I braved the heat and got most of the yard done. This morning I put everything away.
I'm going to read a book and watch birds from inside.

It is awful. Give me cold, please.

    1. I can't do it, Val. My sensitivity to heat has worsened. I just can't be outside when it's like this.

    2. It wasn't as bad yesterday here...but today and tomorrow are probably going to be more than awful. Yes, stay inside!

    3. It was horrible yesterday here and will be the same today, Val. I have a hayfield instead of a lawn once again.

  5. Cooking is very limited here during summers. I bought tacos from the nearby food truck last night.

  6. I've got into the habit of getting up and out early, because it's the only time I can. So hot. So huuuuumid.

  7. Thanks for sharing that bread. Yours looks incredibly delicious! I am heat and humid sensitive and would be ill if I went out in this so know where you are coming from. Sweet photo of Frieda on poppo's desk. Hope you all stay cool!

    1. We suffer the same condition, Denise. Heat bad enough, the humidity sucks the air right out of me. I thank you for the recipe. It's a really good, simple bread. Frieda spends most of her day in his office. She used to be my cat but she succumbed to his charms!

  8. Good thing you guys have all those trees nearby. Do they cool things off? I know our old poplars do an excellent job of cooling off houses.
Cats can sleep anywhere, can't they? I wish I could sometimes:)

    1. We had two huge trees in front of the south side of
house, Pixie, that kept it so much cooler. Both died in the past few years. It's made a difference.

    1. It seems much of the country is overheated, perhaps in more ways than one, e. Frieda is smart.

  10. We are not going to catch a break until Wednesday. Sounds like we have all been blasted with the sunshine furnace. Sponged the horses off tonight. Our lawn has not been growing very fast as we need rain and this is the longest I've gone without mowing...over 10 days. Staying cool is my thing.

    1. It's miserable, Lori. We had another thunderstorm last night. I don't know why the rain isn't making it to you. I guess it wears itself out here.

  11. It's been like a furnace out there! Just dreadful! I can't tolerate it at all, either. The other two apartments I've lived in since I moved up here in 1999 had terrible AC wall units and it was awful! I am SOOOO grateful this one works here.
But--was over at the house today and it was 64 degrees in my new place!! Oh man! I can hardly wait to move!!
Cats do love to lounge--in the heat more than the cold. In the cold they curl and don't sprawl--lol! ;)

    1. Oh wow! I bet that felt good, Rita. Yes, they sprawl out, often in the sun!
