We had a day without rain on Sunday, but not without stifling humidity. Then rain came along in the early evening and it's still raining this morning. If the extended forecast is correct we will need this moisture later on.
I decided I would make bread. This is a whole wheat rosemary loaf. It's good with sandwiches and soup. Being Monday, it's laundry. The horses are staying in the barn today. I know it may seem odd to many that I keep these beasts in sometimes, but we have black clay soil. It's awful when wet. Well, when dry, too. When it's soaked it sucks people in and won't let go. I have found myself face planted more than once as my foot has been held in place while the body is in forward motion. Lovely. For the horses safety, especially geriatric horses, they stay in because this stuff is tendon popping and also the landscape is rolling. I'm cautious.
Gatto sandwiched between bread. I'm a regular comedian! I am too like my father, which is preferable to the other option. I have PT tomorrow, it's down to every three weeks. I stopped my exercises last week because I was in so much pain I just couldn't. For some reason I'm moving better than I was. It's not a reach to believe I may have been overdoing. I tend to be this way, all or nothing. Go figure.
On that, I think I'll toast some rosemary bread and drink coffee while the washer washes.

Ah, we had some of that clay in CO. By the time I walked around the paddock picking up after the beasties, I was a good 5" taller. Our clay would stick, and layers would add up. Your bread looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteClay is a curse of the ages, Dreaming.
DeleteIt wouldn't have occurred to me that someone who throws her life into horses, multiple horses, might have a tendency to overdo.. Noooo.
ReplyDeleteYour bread is fabu. And the kitty sandwich isn't bad.
You picked that up, did you, Boud? 😄
DeleteYour bread looks good:) Have fun at PT:)
ReplyDeleteIt is good and PT ain't no fun!
DeleteYour homemade bread looks wonderful, and the lazy kitty is sweet. Jon ( from TN)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jon. That cat is a demon!
DeleteThat bread looks like it smells amazing—and your kitty’s got the right idea about Mondays.
ReplyDeleteIt smells of rosemary, Jane.
DeleteAre perchance located on an old glacial lake bed. We used to live on a clay plain and glaciation was the cause.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, AC. It sucks. Literally.
DeleteThat clay soil sounds like a nightmare. I love the kitty sandwich, and the bread looks yummy. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is, especially as I was used to a perfect soil, Cheerful. Sandy loam.
DeleteBoy, all that rain you have been having is just not making it to Brockport. I have not mown the lawn in weeks....so dry and brown. Glad that you are moving better than you were. You must be doing something right. Beautiful bread and a beautiful kitty. I know what you mean about boot sucking mud, but that happens seldom here as we have very good drainage.
ReplyDeleteThis stuff cares not a whit about drainage, Lori. It pulls the water in and thens holds it as an instrument of torture. I don't mow often because it's wet. I guess after the rain leaves Wisconsin it gets tired and stops. It doesn't listen to me, Lori.
DeleteWe had rain too on Monday... we now have the Kickapoo River doing its rainy thing...flooding.
ReplyDeleteWith the rain and the heat, the yard could have a Robot Mower just to keep up. Sort of like one of those robo vacuums!
Wouldn't it be nice to have a robot mower, Val. I bought a Roomba when they first came on the market. It was a joke for me. Seven large dogs and a small waste container. Not a match.
DeleteThat bread is beautiful. Drumheller, in southern Alberta, has the kind of mud that builds up and builds up on your shoes, until each shoe feels like it weights ten pounds.
ReplyDeleteThen you walk like Frankenstein, Pixie! The bread is good.
DeleteGatto is so cute!
ReplyDeleteIt's his saving grace, e.
DeleteI LOOOOOVE rosemary. Love it. I also love making stuffing bread, so all the seasonings that go into stuffing and then later turning that bread into stuffing. My gosh, baking rocks!
ReplyDeleteYou do feel the joy, Ivy! That's a very good idea, one I never thought of. I'm going to do this.
DeleteWe have clay soil as well, but it gray in color. Plus our rocks are mainly granite.
ReplyDeleteI bet it's beautiful there, Dora.
DeleteYou take such good care of your horses - and good to take care of yourself. Falling is not an option that I want to deal with anymore and I think you are very wise keeping the horses cosey. Gatto is adorable and I wish I had a slice of your bread now. That looks incredible!
ReplyDeleteI've always been cautious with the horses, Denise. They are my barn babies. I make your soda bread often, it's a great recipe and I will always remember you because of it.
DeleteThe bread 🍞 looks very good and of course you know I love ❤️ 🐈 😻 🐈⬛️ 🐱
ReplyDeleteThe bread is good, Linda. The cats are not always so!
DeleteThe black clay soil sounds like a big nuisance. Sensible to keep the horses well away from it.
ReplyDeleteIt's the bane of my existence, nick!
