I had an appointment on Monday for the annual wellness check. I asked for a muscle relaxer to help my back. The NP felt along my spine and was kind of surprised how tight I am. I got the relaxer. I've always been a bit of a tight ass. Now I'm also a tight back. There was the Covid and flu shot done while there. I have not had any kind of reaction before, but yesterday I felt lousy. I did nothing but moan and groan. Today is much better.
The auger on the pellet stove started making a very loud noise. Neighbor Bill finally deduced the problem and is hoping to fix it. He is getting professional advice from Gatto, so all should be well.
Some may remember this china. It belonged to my friend and had been her grandmother's. She was taking it to Goodwill and I told her she should keep it, it was her grandmother's. She didn't have my sentimentality about such things and said no. I told her I would hang onto it incase she changed her mind, which she didn't. She died about five years ago, so she never will. I had posted it for free a couple of years ago, got a taker and set up a day and time. Packed it up. The person never showed up.
I decided a couple of days ago to unpack it and use it as everyday. Why not? The surface size is considerably smaller, which makes this serving look huge. It was not. Everything had become bigger. My grandma's silver cutlery is tiny compared to my mother's. Mark can eat a lot, which didn't matter until a few years ago. He has the heart attack belly now, so this should help. A lot of eating too much is a visual thing. If his plate is full, he is full.
Today is warm and sunny. I feel better. It's a good start.
True about plate size. I noticed plates in US restaurants seemed bigger than European ones. And I never saw a plate actually heaped up till I was in Canada!
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising when looking at dinnerware from a century or more how much smaller everything was. We do tend to pile on the food, Boud.
DeleteI still need to get shots. We have smaller plates now too and it's fine with me. I got them (about 20) at the Dollar store when we were having a big dinner and now use them every day. Your plates are gorgeous. Waiting for some sunshine. We have a lot of rain in the forecast.
ReplyDeleteMy arm no longer hurts and I think I'm back to my usual 50% energy level,. Lori! My plate looks like it runneth over with these plates! No rain here.
DeleteI felt lousy after both the vaccinations. Hope today is better for you! Those are some pretty plates...like Spring!!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a reaction before, Far Side. I feel better finally.
DeleteThat is an excellent use of fine china. I took out the silverware I got when I married and use it everyday now. I feel fancy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have a cat on the job:)
It's fun to feel fancy, Pixie. I think I'll start wearing my pearls!!
DeleteWhat a lovely plate! Personally I like the smaller plates. I think they trick your mind you are eating a larger serving and you feel full faster. Those are gorgeous dishes. I don't keep things for "special" anymore. I know my kids aren't interested and I deserve to enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteI hope your back feels better soon.
It does trick you, Miss Merry. My son has no interest in any of this. I think we may be the last generation that sets a formal table.
DeleteMy mother collected a set over the year, but by both $ by $. Turns out that such sets are worthless now. It sits in the cupboard. We should probably use it.
ReplyDeleteYou should use it. These things have little to no value now and the younger people have no interest in it, so use the china, AC.
DeleteSuch a pretty plate, sometime soft and simple is great.
ReplyDeleteIt truly is, Dora.
DeleteI have had all my Covid vaccines, the last one was last month. Moderna for all of them, Pfizer for one. I have never had any bad effects on any.
ReplyDeleteMine have all been Pfizer, but this one I don't know about, Linda.
DeleteI meant to add that I had both my flu and Covid vaccines at the same time with no ill effects whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteSo have I . I wonder why this time, Linda.
DeleteI'm glad you had your shots and that you are feeling better. We had our Covid shot a couple of weeks after the flu one, just in case. Good for you for using the dishes.
ReplyDeleteI've always had them at the same time, Cheerful. I'm so grateful to have the vaccines available.
DeleteHow smart you are! I need my COVID and will get it soon, I had the other.
ReplyDeleteI love those plates and would actually use them, they are so pretty and ... well pretty.
I am not one to get excited over plates, but there you are.
I use the smaller dishes in my house now.
Lordy, I have a huge pile of mix and match plates I'll never use anymore!
Hope your pellet stove gets fixed!
Someone may enjoy you mix and match plates, Val. I'm sure your meals are quite different now, less meat and potatoes. I have always liked the pretty things!
DeleteI'm so unsentimental I have nothing at all that belonged to my parents. If I have no use for something out it goes, even if it came from a friend or relative. I hope people are equally matter-of-fact about anything I once gave them.
ReplyDeleteI am the opposite, nick. Family heirlooms mean a lot to me. I realize things are different now, but I still keep more than I should.
DeleteGlad you’re feeling better- the plates look lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jane. They are pretty, aren't they.
DeleteIf I got the flu shot and the Covid shot at the same time you wouldn't hear from me for a week or more. Those shots usually do me in royally ever since my cancer ordeal--teeth chattering fevers and the whole works. I have pretty much lost my immune system, I think. Takes me forever to get over any illness I do get anymore. Despite shots I still caught the flu and got shingles bad. Haven't had Covid, though. Not sure what would happen to me. *shudders*
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love the picture of Supervisor Gatto!!
Those are such pretty plates. Great idea to just use them. I've heard of the smaller plates and bowls idea. Not going to buy new ones, though--lol! ;)
Glad you are feeling better. I've been at a stiff and sore standstill for a couple of days...just doing laundry is enough. :)
I had Covid before the vaccine was available, Rita. I had influenza in 2017. I ended up with pneumonia and was not well for months. I will never miss that shot again, Rita! You are quite vulnerable to infectious diseases. I do like the plates. I'm now glad the person didn't pick them up.
DeleteVery cool that you're using the plates. And why not indeed. If they're there, I say use them and enjoy them. Life is too short. Funny about the cat helping out. I don't know if you meant to or not, but this was actually a funny read.
ReplyDeleteIf it was funny I couldn't have meant it to be, Ivy. I fall on my face when I think I'm funny! Gatto brings his own strange humor.
DeleteI tell you.The way you write, which is very good, sometimes reads as dry humour, I think is the term. It's pretty darn good.
DeleteI think I may have been born with a sardonic gene, Ivy.😉
DeleteHello. I love that you are using the plates and yes, older plates and silverware are so much smaller than what you find now. I love your cat's name. So appropriate.
ReplyDeleteAh, you know what the name means! Thank you for stopping by, Lori. I'm liking the plates.
DeleteNice blog
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteGood that you are using it as it was meant to be used. It certainly is lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty, Sue.
