This is a photo from our first summer living here. It shows the tar papered unfinished section of the exterior of the house. It also shows Chloe, our Lab/Dalmatian girl.
These photos are about 15 years ago, those large trees have been gone for several years. Sadly. The screened porch is the tar paper area on the above photo. The foundation for it was already there. We had it built that first summer.
The screened porch was the connecting piece on the outside.
We reached 87 F yesterday. It will be 80 F today then 50s and 60s. Sixties is great gardening weather so that will be my agenda for the week. Yesterday and today I am occupied by steam cleaning the carpets. Three down, three more to go in the living area. The remaining three are a runner and two smaller area rugs. They badly need it. I bought this one in 1981. It's survived many large dogs and several cats.
I like to read the daily doings of online friends. Its never dull. Particularly when they're doing steam cleaning, never done that and I'm not sure what it's about. But I expect having pets leads to it.
ReplyDeleteYour house is beautiful and it shows how much love has been put into it. I enjoy reading about day-to-day life.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lori. For the first 20 years I spent all of my time in the barn. I could have had a tent!
DeleteA steam cleaner is a machine that resembles a vacuum, Boud. It sends out hot water and then sucks it back up as you go over the carpet like you are vacuuming. Yes, pets do add to the need to clean the carpet. It is interesting how much I enjoy the everyday lives of my blogging pals.
ReplyDeleteI wuz joking..my son tells me I should do a joke alert.
DeleteHa!, you got me! I should have known.
DeleteDear Sandra, you have a lovely home.
ReplyDeleteI purchased a Bissell bagless vacuum today at Canadian Tire for $80.00 on sale from $130.00.
I love the fact that every purchase helps save pets as well as this is a bagless vacuum which is better for the environment.
Plus I got a great price. It will replace my old vacuum and I will be continuing my Spring cleaning today and tomorrow with the beautiful and comfortable weather.
You got a deal, Linda! I decided I needed a day off and will commence with cleaning tomorrow. It's supposed to rain so a good day for it. Enjoy the new vacuum!
DeleteWe are to hit 84 on Tuesday. And so it begins.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes it does, AC.
DeleteYou have quite a large home for two people! Yes I enjoy the everyday life and happenings.
ReplyDeleteIt is too large, FS. But it is home. We came from a turn-of-the-century home where I entertained a lot, so it didn't seem too large at the time. I never considered how different life would be here. I had no idea how tribal it is.
DeleteYou sure must be feeling better to get all that rug cleaning accomplished! I need to do that too....but don't. Love the photographs of your house. It looks huge and the interior is so comfortable.....
ReplyDeleteWell, it is just one every other day, Lori, so...........😉 It's not huge but is is more than we need.
DeleteWe have all new windows (triple pane) in the house and it's much quieter now which I like very much. But now I have a lot of cleaning to day. Yay.
ReplyDeleteI love your house. You guys did a good job.
Why with improvement does mess always follow, Pixie. I had two different, great guys doing the work.
DeleteI love your porches!
ReplyDeleteI do, too. The problem is that with the loss of the large trees and facing south, it gets hot, Miss Merry.
DeleteThank you for the pictures and story. I'm afraid my rug-cleaning days are over -- good for you!
ReplyDeleteIt's been feeling like it's done for me, too, Cheerful.
DeleteThat reminds me we should be cleaning our rugs as well. They always seem to be last on our housework list!
ReplyDeleteThey have been ignored for a couple of years here, nick. It's been needed.
DeleteSeeing photos of a person's home is seeing the person from a very different perspective. I appreciate the openness that you have given us in the blogger's world. btw, I love the rug and the openness of the room itself.
ReplyDeleteIt is, Tommy. I very much enjoy being invited into to my blog friends space.
DeleteYou are so right about the friendships gained through blogging. I can't tell you how many times I will reference a blog friend when chatting with an in-person friend. They often don't 'get it', but those of us who do write, and read, we all seem to have that kinship.
ReplyDeleteWe get it. Mark is familiar with many of you as my conversation will often include something I read. It's a lifeline for people like me who tend to be isolated. I do gather motivation from all of you.
DeleteBlog friendships have become a part of my life and I have been fortunate to have meet a few over the years. I enjoy reading about their lives and sharing about our own.
ReplyDeleteI get to travel with you, Dorothy!
DeleteYou took a Pig's Ear and turned it into a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteVery good, Val!
DeleteYou certainly have a beautiful home. I also like the daily goings on of blogging friends. I had to smile at your Chloe in that first photo. We had a black lab/dalmation mix, mostly black but patches of white with black spots on her chest and paws. I still miss her dearly!
ReplyDeleteShe was a fiercely protective dog, Denise. Neighbors got a puppy. She was too much for people who'd never had a dog. They asked if I would take her and I did. She was a handful, that girl.
DeleteWhat a beautiful trip down memory lane! Chloe looks like she was such a sweet, wonderful girl, and it’s amazing to see how much the house and the landscape have evolved since that first summer. It is always a bit heartbreaking when large, beautiful trees have to go, but they certainly live on in those great photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you do much, Melody.
