A Sunny Monday


Sunday morning I got up, made coffee and sat at my desk for a morning reading your blogs. I think I read two when there was a knock at the door. Neighbor Bill had stopped by for a semi-early visit with some of his frozen green beans. He is clearing out the freezer  for the upcoming crop. He also had a tax question for Mark. 

By the time he left it was approaching lunchtime, so I made a quick soup. The remainder of the day I devoted to me. The sciatic nerve pain truly did knock me off my feet. Over a week of not moving hardly at all to moving poorly showed up in stiffness, a limping gait and big time back pain. I did a series of stretches, balance and strength work. I must say, at the risk of jinxing myself, that I do feel less tight this morning.

I've ordered shade tolerant wildflower seeds to put in areas of my lawn where the only thing growing is scraggly weeds. I'd rather flowers than weeds and it also becomes a space I don't need to mow. I strew seeds in a pasture twenty years ago when I had the brilliant intention of keeping bees. Mark finally convinced me I had enough to do. Back to the seeds. There are still flowers in that field.


Dinner lately has been anything fast. Mark spends some time in the evenings, after the beasties are tucked in, lopping the trillions of trees continually attempting a takeover, so it gets late.

  2. Wild flowers will be lovely to look at and I'm thinking bees would be a lot of work:) I've thought about it too though.

  3. A friend is experiencing significant back pain. Boy, is he ever diligent about doing his exercises. I have never been that diligent.

    1. Either am I, AC. I've had a talk with myself, explaining I am the one harmed by not being diligent. But then, I am also the one who doesn't listen.

  4. The thing about back pain is having to exercise when you'd rather do just about anything else. I hope the improvement keeps going.

  6. I am so sorry that you have been experiencing pain. I hope that it dissipates quickly.

  7. Sciatica is nasty. My mum had it and was always looking for some more effective way of subduing it. She made light of it but it was a constant bugbear.

  8. Hopefully the pain abates soon. I too love seeds. I can buy native wildflowers seeds by the bulk. I'm going to spread them in a section of the yard I don't like to mow also.

    I don't have any advice for sciatica pain. I worked for a Chiro for 10 years and we saw so many patients with it. He mostly gave them certain light exercises to help.

    1. I have a hand held rotating massager which helps. Otherwise just stretching is about all I can do, Val. Any spot I don't have to tend to is a plus, Val. Wildflowers are a perfect solution.

  9. I'm limping and hobbling and noticing that one side of me is very stiff, despite 'gentle' stretches...so I can commiserate! When we lived in Colorado my hubby swerved around the patches of wildflowers to promote their growth. We loved them!

  10. That sounds awful Sandra and I hope you will get the total relief that you need. Your meal looks incredible! I was very interested in you having shade tolerant seeds. I have a few areas I will do that and throwing them around sounds a lot easier. You're field full of flowers made my ears pick up. Thank you and I hope you have a good week, hopefully soon to be free of pain.

    1. I am better, Denise. I like the idea of flowers instead of ground and weeds. My DIL has turned their small front yard into a garden of native plants.
