Prunus virginiana L
Chokecherry
I was mowing yesterday and saw this amongst the wild things growing in abundance on the property. I have not seen this before so I looked it up on the plant identifier. It's large enough that I know it's been here a little while, growing where a pine was felled 3 years ago. I find it very pretty and it has a light fragrance. Something new to add to the northern jungle.
I got half the yard mowed. I won't be finishing today as it is very windy and what I have left is in the wide open. We took the car in for new brakes today. I was going to drive the truck but that couldn't happen. The power seat wouldn't move and it is not possible for me to reach the pedals. Locked out of driving my own truck. Just not right.
Does Gatto know this is a Goodwill box?
I did a little first mowing today. My body was not happy, and in turn, neither was I. Gatto is at peace in that box and very self assured.
ReplyDeleteI do get to sit when I mow but it still wears on the body. That is one definite thing about Gatto. He is very self assured.
DeleteSo funny on the good box. LOOOVE the photo. So great to get outside and snap shots. Happy Wednesday to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ivy. It's good to have you back.
DeleteYou can make chokecherry jelly:) Ours are just in bud right now but you live in the warm part of Minnesota!
ReplyDeleteI have never made jelly or jam.
DeleteThat is a very pretty flower. Gato looks to be quite content in that box. Good luck getting him out.
ReplyDeleteIt has a delicate smell. I don't think he like being donated to Goodwill, Lori!
DeleteLovely flower, Sandra! And Gatto is adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda.
ReplyDeleteWe had a chokecherry tree but had to cut it down due to the black knot fungus.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing the cat doesn't know it's a goodwill box. I'm sure he'd be surprised to find out:)

DeleteI bet if I walked around the property I would see more of them, Pixie. Gatto is in the box again. There is a strong sunbeam.
ReplyDeleteRun Gatto, run!!! LOL! Hope you're not too sore after the mowing. It's raining here too.
ReplyDeleteNo, I have the same amount of soreness, Denise. Goodwill would get a surprise with this little devil!
DeleteLOL!
DeleteLocked out of your own truck?! Not right. ❤️
ReplyDeleteNo it's not right. I am the main one to have used the truck and now I can't. We need to get that fixed. It is sort of like climbing a mountain to get into it all of a sudden!
DeleteMy grandma made chokecherry jam every year. Huckleberry, too.
ReplyDeleteI never have seen it growing, though. Pretty!!
Don't give Gatto to Goodwill, send him to me!!!
I've never made jam or jelly, Ami. I think about it and ten don't. I also have concord grape vines which I've intended to use bit haven't in over 20 years!
DeleteYou don't want to eat chokecherries without sweetner, but we used to make jelly and grandma even made homemade ...from scratch jello out of the stuff.
ReplyDeleteI like the jelly.
The chokecherries are blossoming all over the place!
I read that when I look it up. They will likely be food for the birds, Val.
DeleteGoodwill would be as surprised as Gatto if he were to be accidentally donated, but we know that would not happen. I used to mow the lawn and enjoyed the outdoor exercise, but living where we do now means that chores is just a memory.
ReplyDeleteGato can get comfy anywhere it seems... almost ended up off to the Goodwill on this Nap? *LOL*
