Rerun 2009

I clicked on the link of a random blogger and read a post about being ordinary and how people are thinking about the ordinary things in life. This made me remember something I wrote a couple of years ago about this subject, brought to my mind not because people are contemplating ordinariness, but rather because I saw so many extraordinary people blogging. In my not always humble opinion, I think it is worth a rerun. May 7, 2009:

Wonder Woman

I think I read the same post as you recently about ordinariness and loved it. I also loved your take on your own far from ordinary ordinariness! I know that my life is often extra-ordinary and that I yearn for a bit more of the ordinary, but then I realize the relativity of that statement, anyway. When it becomes really interesting to me is when it refers to children's abilities and the pressures/tendencies our culture demands regarding success and achievement.

Thanks for continuing the discussion!

Elizabeth. I don't remember where I read it, or I would have linked. I clicked someone's link on someone else's blog.

I think you are Wonder Woman. I don't know how you do what you do. I guess like the rest of us, one foot in front of the other. But it is extraordinary.

Sandra, I loved your post. I'm struggling with my own ordinariness these days, alternating between wondering if this is all there is for me and feeling like a mini wonder woman on my better days, for being the best I can be caretaker of all in my path. Parenting is the most humbling thing that has ever happened to me.
Your post is worth lots of reruns. You should put in on a regular rotation.
Take care, hope your snow melts soon!

Mel, at the time I wrote this I remember wondering what I had to offer to this amazing group of people who lived a life so outside my own. Smart, beautiful, cultured people living interesting lives. Then I thought about it and realized we are all looking elsewhere and comparing.

You are not a mini Wonder Woman. You are. We all are. I am because I can do things most people can't, handle the big guys. But everyone has their version of the big guys. Flex your muscle, cross your arms at the wrist and deflect the bullets. And say, I am.
