I had a good Saturday. I spent the day in the kitchen, baking, cooking, cleaning up and watching the last three episodes from the final season of the 2000's era TV series, Monk. You either liked that series, or well, you didn't. I think we liked/like it partly because Adrian Monk is an amalgamation of Mark and Sandra. We see it and we laugh, because, we see it. Monk is an extreme version, so don't worry too much about us. Seriously.
Ok, moving on. I made an apple galette the easy way, using puff pastry. Bill had brought me a large amount of apples, most of which I cut and froze. I had several sitting on the counter long enough they were getting soft, so...puff pastry rescue. Apple slicing and Adrian Monk, not bad.
Dinner was this very simple, very good casserole which I made with cannellini beans, bacon, onion, garlic and broccoli, And cheese. Lots of cheese. It's much better than you would think. So, so easy.
I have been having a new nightly visitor to the cat food. Along with the stray tabby we have a young possum, or opossum if I'm being correct. Even with the rat-like tail, they are so cute. It will watch me through the window with that adorable face. Let us hope this one doesn't show up one day with babies. Please be a boy. I would like to keep feeding the kitty. Not the poker kitty, the cute little tabby kitty.
I have nothing planned for today. It's a warm day, warm for us, and cloudy. Perhaps I'll think about dragging some Christmas stuff up from the basement. Or not. Gatto makes decorating an almost insurmountable task. I'm not sure almost belongs in that sentence.

That apple galette looks wonderful. I'm glad you're not close to Monk's neurotic self!
So am I, Boud. I have a little OCD. I'm fussy about food and actually quite a few things! Mark is high anxiety and he does that thing with his hands when he's trying to calm himself.
I loved Monk and all the other characters. Your apple dish looks scrumptious!
I watched Monk back in the day when it first aired, but don't watch the reruns because I'm not as patient as I once was and find his idiosyncrasies annoying now. "Apples, beans, possums" ... I was expecting possum pie.
I remember the show Monk it was something I watched, that apple dish looks nice
That baby possum is cute. I agree, hopefully it's a boy so you don't get overrun with babies. ๐
I feel like there was an offbeat British detective like Monk, but I can't think of him if there was.
I think the kitchen is your happy place! The galette looks wonderful! Rustic...the way food should be:)
Your cooking and baking always look so good. What a beautiful little possum.
After seeing the apple galette, I need to get some puff pastry for my next baking project, Sandra. That casserole contained foods we would enjoy, so HOW simple was it to assemble?
Everything you make looks delicious!
Monk! Loved Monk! Probably because I can relate--as someone who goes around to put everything back in its exact spot after the cleaning girl leaves--ROFL! I am not as bad as Monk, but--yes--I can relate.
A possum!??! I didn't know we had possums in Minnesota?! No lie! That is news to me. Wow! It is cute, though. I've heard they love to steal cat food.
Have a wonderful week! :)
I loved Monk! your apple dessert looks lovely. Have a good week.
So you have an unexpected visitor. I hope he/she turns out to be the more convenient sex!
I watch Monk on Cozi TV, Miss Merry.
You are funny, B&B!!!
Thanks, Jo-Anne.
After "our" young raccoon showed up one day with 4 little ones it became clear he was a she, Cheerful! At least possums are less rambunctious!
The only one I can think of is Hercule, AC.
I do seem to spend most of my time in the kitchen, Far Side!
It is cute, Pixie.
Very simple, Dorothy. Two cans of beans, I used frozen broccoli, thawed. onion, garlic, 2 T tomato paste, I/2 cup hot water, oregano and a little red pepper flakes. Saute onions and garlic. Everything can go into the pan, mix in the hot water and tomato paste. Add whatever cheese you like, I used gruyere, . Put in a casserole dish, sprinkle top with cheese. I baked it in at 400 degrees until bubbling and the cheese melted and browned slightly. Easy.
You and I have the same issue, Rita. I tend to adjust things as I walk by and can't take something off a bit. I don't know if anyone as bad as Monk could actually survive in the world!
I knew they were here because I have seen one or two over the last few years. I looked it up. They have been in the extreme south of MN for a century. They have moved into MN as far as northern MN much more recently. It does enjoy the food I put out for the stray. I need to fill the dish after it leaves again for the cat.
Cozi tv has Monk and Columbo on, both of which I liked back in the day. I watch while I'm working in the kitchen, e. The galette is good.
Yes, it was a surprise, nick!! please let it be the more convenient sex.
I need to make my debut with puffed pastry! Looks divine, and I am loaded with apples. There are not too many farms that don't have visitors.
It's a great thing to have on hand, Lori. It seems I often don't want to make crusts anymore. I may forget how. Yes, over the years I have seen lots of various wildlife. Some have disappeared, which is not a good thing.
That Possum looks typical of his Louisiana Cousins. They will eat anything for sure.
I would encourage the Possum to leave as they carry EPM which is pretty nasty to horses. I'm sorry to be negative about it but I've helped two neighbors go through this disease with their horses and helped bury them.
[Really sorry to mention that]
Love your meals, they look so wonderul and delicious. My hubby will only eat the very common dishes. Meat, taters, Spaghetti, Pot Roast, ... you know, good ol' country dishes. LOL. Don't try to feed him something different!
