And Then There Were Four

Do me a favor. Please. Sit back, take a breath, close your eyes and consider. Consider what life will look like in the world envisioned by the Republican candidates for President of the United States.

Forget about ideology and just see it.

Yes, I watched what seems like my millionth debate.

Let's see ... Women will have to relearn the privileges of being barefoot and regularly pregnant.

Now, please, put on your make-up and dress, go make dinner, bring me my pipe and slippers and don't speak unless given permission to speak ... and then only to agree with me or any other manly man.

Welcome back to the Dark Ages!

It's a very mean and angry world they envision. Filled with fear. The incessant drum beating for war never stops. And the crowd cheers.

I just answered on your previous post but in case you miss it:

"I have not watched or bothered to read any of the "debacles".

These are not "people". These are vested interests dressed with clothes and their vested interest had nothing to do with rights, ethics and the sort. When a nation is for sale we call it third world nation. What has ours become? Don't answer that.

Up or on the rocks?"

They remind me of the Roman circus. They throw raw meat to the beasts and watch their masses become rapturous from the blood lust. The audience bothers me more than the stooges on the stage.

I'll take that drink neat.

they may be vested interests, but they are what's on offer...it's a scary world. but that's what you're getting at.

i'm happy to be distant from it all and to read only analyses in my own newspaper (filtered through a danish lens). it's scary, nonetheless. but undoubtedly worse to be there in the middle of it.

one can only hope that reason will ultimately prevail. but sadly, it will probably get worse before it gets better.

i still blame bush. he changed completely what it's allowed to say. those rabid religious zealots were always there, but now they think it's ok to shout out their bigotry.

Fox Not News, Rush Limbaugh & the rest of the talking monsters have had a tremendous influence on American discourse and American misinformation. We've had 30 years of an erosion of our culture and I would like to believe we are at the stage where it blows up. But, one can never underestimate the unpredictability of a people weaned on the myth of rugged individualism.

It is very frightening because one of them could win.
