Festive Gala At Reflection Farm

Sunday was the quintessential All-American day! Green lawn, happy people, great weather and horses. Jean and her daughter Jaime hosted a tail cutting celebration for the Champion miniature stallion that they got into the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest tail on a pony! Jaime started this process without telling Dakota's owners, the Pitmans of Hudson Wisconsin. It took a year before it was finalized, but the stallion and his tail made the record book. Ron Pitman wanted to cut the tail, so finally, a year later, a celebration was held and the deed was done. I think a good time was had by all, including Dakota.

Complete with cake.
Ron & Jaime (and a little dog) with the certification.
Unveiling of the tail.
Showing his long locks.
Showing off.
It's cut off!
Gimme a kiss.
Driving away.

That is so neat. Beautiful little pony! Does one normally need to cut the tail hair? I thought it would only grow so long and then stop.

A horses mane and tail grow continuously, but they often rub the mane and break it and they step on the tail, also breaking it. Some horses also don't have very good hair. To get a tail like this, they are braided, rolled and wrapped and only disturbed a few times a year. Certain disciplines want a very long tail, such as saddleseat. Now his tail is just above the ground and totally useful once again.

Thank you, Sandra for sharing this on your blog.

This miniature is a World Champion halter horse. Some other trivia for you. The award was for the longest tail on a miniature OR pony. However, "miniature people" are quite offended by their animals being referred to as ponies. (I don't really care--it is an honest mistake.) The idea being that ponies are larger bodied with short legs and the good show minis are supposed to be porportioned like small horses. This stallion is 32" tall. The final tail measurement before cutting was 113" long.

I often fondly call ALL my horses ponies--from the 16.1 hand Saddlebred to the minis! Such as. "It's time to go home--the ponies will be hungry!"

I am not quite sure what to do with the tail. The precious gem has been entrusted to my care. :~)

It would be fun to put it under glass in a frame and display it alongside the framed certificate. Such decisions.......

I am open to suggestions.

Sandra said...

I say, have it framed!

That would have to be a heckuva long frame!
