Spring's Earliest Flowers

Spring flowers are my favorite, especially the dandelions! In Ontario they have banned the use of herbicide to rid your lawn of dandelions and other broad leaf plants, so the end result is to learn to love dandelions!

I can not believe how we are at least 2 -4 weeks behind in our growth! amazing.

Story about the dandelions - there is a patch of grass as we come into town it is an empty lot, therefore full of dandelions right now. My 4 year old gasped and said "look at all those nannylions" after I commented back he then said "I wish I could pick them all and put them in a big bucket" sooooo cute!

If I could pack up all of my horses and go, I would go to Canada. I have kept my own patch of earth chemical free, but I can't say the same for everyone around me. I don't mind the dandelions and the horses love them. They come in with yellow muzzles!

Jules you are about 5 hours north and I guess that puts you in a different climate zone. : ( nannylions, that's why you are a mom, moments like that!

What a field of dandelions! I had to enlarge the pic to make sure I was seeing the right thing. I hear you about the yellow muzzles...our guys loved them too. The leaves have just started to come out on the lilacs here so hopefully...the blooms aren't too far behind.

That is absolutely gorgeous! Is it worth the dreary winter months of snow & ice? I love dandelions. They are sunny & hardy & flower anywhere.

Alicia, it doesn't seem to take long from budding leaves to blooms. I love lilac and this is on the way down to the barn so I catch the scent often.

Ganeida....NO! But since I live here I will enjoy what small pleasures I get. : )

How lovely, : ) We are getting our first tastes of 'chilly' weather. A laughable 50 degrees farenheit with wind and rain. It is refreshing though and I actually wore a fleece this evening! : )

Enjoy your lovely spring!

I'm only about 2 hours north of you - and doggone it, my stuff is soooo far behind yours (well, except for the dandelions!).
Isn't spring great? (Except for the mud, but since we are rain challenged, we haven't had to deal with that. I am going out to do a rain dance right now. Please join me!)

You know, I always enjoy the first bite of fall in the air. And then I get over it when it's so cold your lips fall off. : )

We had about 1/2 hour of rain earlier this evening. It looks like it's over for us, I hope it headed your way. It wasn't enough, but it's better than nothing. I didn't realize that our climate is so different from just a couple of hours away.

I feel like running through the paddock of yellow flowers or just sitting in the middle of in basking in the mild spring sunshine with a good book.

Well now Liss, you make me see the whole thing differently. I always think in terms of the horses frolicking in the field, but I rather like the idea of my doing the frolic! It does smell wonderful, so laying and reading a book would be nice. My beekeeping book would be appropriate.
