First Bounty of the Season

I used to visit and revisit it a dozen times a day, and stand in deep contemplation over my vegetable progeny with a love that nobody could share or conceive of who had never taken part in the process of creation.  It was one of the most bewitching sights in the world to observe a hill of beans thrusting aside the soil, or a rose of early peas just peeping forth sufficiently to trace a line of delicate green.  ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mosses from an Old Manse

We were able to enjoy a small bit of the fruits of our labor for dinner. I planted a seed packet of mixed greens and they are now ready to eat. Very good, I must say!

I told Mark that this year it is our garden because he worked hard removing sod and tilling soil for me to have this garden. Next year it will be mine, but this year I will think it ours.

Enjoy the weekend. Eat well and play well. Then let me know all about it!

ah yes, gardening. my cup runeth over with weeds at the moment. amazing how they grow quicker then the actual veggies. Question - why didn't God make rabbits so that they enjoyed weeds instead of the veggies, it would really help things (and maybe save the life of this poor rabbits whose days are numbered I fear)

That's awesome, great photo -what is the stuff on the left? I always forget the name of it, I just know I really don't care for it when it's in my salad, lol.

Love that quote - I keep looking at our green pepper every day. :) It's growing bigger, and now there's a 2nd one sprouting!

We are walking on the beach & round the cannals this weekend & my poor waterlogged garden must grow without me. There is nothing more inspiring than picking the first crop of the season! It looks great too & it will taste wonderful.

Well, Jules I don't know about rabbits, but I watched a wet fox trotting by my office window, go into my garden and start digging around the lemon cucumbers. I saw that all dug up yesterday, now I know who is doing it! I knocked on the window and sent the little scamp on its way. : ) The baby bunnies are out and about. They like petunias.

Judy, too early for squash & cukes here.

Oz, I think the green is arugula. It has a slightly bitter taste, but if in small amounts I like the contrast.

Ganeida, winter in the sub-tropics! Enjoy the beach, the garden can be waterlogged without you.

Lorac, I've not grown lettuce before and I have to agree with you. It is wonderful!

Queen, That's some lettuce. I think we need to sent Jule's rabbit for a visit. : )
