Newest Member Of The Exclusive Club

No, I wasn't chosen as the latest member of Obama's Cabinet. Not yet anyway.

Newest nutcracker. My mother gave this to me. She was worried I would already have it, but I told her not to worry, They are often so alike, but somewhat different. I don't know how I got on this kick. It used to be old, fine bone china tea cups, from England only. I guess I ran out of room, so I went to something I only pull out once a year. I think all the 'boys' welcomed him aboard!

He looks like a fine nutcracker to add to your little brigade. As long as you don't run into any alpha male wrangling the transition should go smoothly ; )

He looks like a good natured fellow though...: )

I need to choose a collection. I had a feather collection when I was a kid but that is as far as my collecting allowed me to go.

I had a house fire when I was 8 months pregnant with Sienna and lost so much 'stuff' that I think I put up a block against getting attached to things. It has served me well in many ways but sometimes it still is nice to appreciate and turn things into bearers of memories, it is just a little risky : )

Ok sorry to turn this comment into a downer. LOL!
I love your collection and want to start an ornament one for the girls. My parents have the most wonderful glass ornament collection and I love to unwrap each special piece.

Bye for now

OK, at the risk of appearing dumber than usual [put it down to the Great Cultural Divide] how do you use one of these? Or is it not for actually cracking nuts? They are gorgeous to look at but I'm a little confused. Or overtired. You choose.

Ganeida, there is a lever at the back that operates the mouth up and down. That would crack the nut. But they aren't used that way any more, they are collected as an ornament.

Ashley, collections can become burdens. : ) But I think something like ornaments for the girls is a great idea and a way to have continuity of tradition.

My grandparents had a fire when my mother was around 10. She never forgot it and they lost everything. That is something that stays with you. But you have two beautiful children and a life with your husband. Maybe it's time to let go just a 'little' and start collecting something. : ) I mostly have collected horses, so don't do that. Talking from experience here!

I wish I could write the noise I made when I read your post Jean.......you are funny. I wish I had the coupon habit.

Thanks for welcoming him in his native language.

OK. All clear now. We own the hardest nuts in the world & they'd crack your nutcracker. Our nutcrackers are a press & screw job that's still not guaranteed to crack a really tough nut.

We own some of the hardest heads in the world. Maybe we're even!
