I'm Alive and I Believe in Everything
Lesley Choyce

I'm Alive, I Believe In Everything

Self. Brotherhood. God. Zeus. Communism.
Capitalism. Buddha. Vinyl records.
Baseball. Ink. Trees. Cures for disease.
Saltwater. Literature. Walking. Waking.
Arguments. Decisions. Ambiguity. Absolutes.
Presence. Absence. Positive and Negative.
Empathy. Apathy. Sympathy and entropy.
Verbs are necessary. So are nouns.
Empty skies. Dark vacuums of night.
Visions. Revisions. Innocence.
I've seen All the empty spaces yet to be filled.
I've heard All of the sounds that will collect
at the end of the world.
And the silence that follows.

I'm alive, I believe in everything
I'm alive, I believe in it all.

Waves lapping on the shore.
Skies on fire at sunset.
Old men dancing on the streets.
Paradox and possibility.
Sense and sensibility.
Cold logic and half truth.
Final steps and first impressions.
Fools and fine intelligence.
Chaos and clean horizons.
Vague notions and concrete certainty.
Optimism in the face of adversity.

I'm alive, I believe in everything
I'm alive, I believe in it all.

I liked it! It makes sense to me and I understand what he is saying. I was looking for a positive message. : ) I've done plenty to "slit my wrist by"!

What an amazing poem of hope.

I loved it.

Every time I meet my brother, he asks how I am doing. I say just fine and his reply is "well, you're above the grass". This poem really is great...one has to be grateful for all the little things and to believe. Super!

I love this!!! These are words that speak to me. More than that, they don't just draw a picture. These words paint a mural as huge as humanity.

Alicia, I really don't like when I am asked "How are you?" Too often, the question feels obligatory. But now, I have an answer. "I'm alive. I believe in everything."

thanks to the author, and you, sandra, for posting it.

You're above the grass, I have to remember that!

gspc, you reacted to it the way I did. I went searching for a poem and came upon this first thing. I loved it. And I normally don't believe in anything! But I'm learning.
