The longer the noodles are the easier it is to wrap around your fork in the traditional way of eating spaghetti. I agree...do not break the noodles before cooking! LOL! Love it!
Here is the answer. It is made long for a reason .The reason, as Val said, is that as you wrap it around the fork you gather up the sauce. The shape of pasta is all about how it interacts with the sauce. Capire?🤷🏻♀️
lololololol. I'm gonna duck as I write this .... I have to break mine. I love it small and broken when using boxed noodles. Homemade I'll make all shapes. Boxed though (still ducking), I gotsssssta break.
Matthew sent this to me with quite a few laugh emoji, meaning he knew why it was funny. I really had no idea how many people break the pasta. On a scale of 1-10 it fall at zero in importance, but I will never break the pasta, Boud!

Why?
I agree, Lori. That requires further explication. 🤔
Yeah....I don't get the taboo on breaking pasta - I guess not being Italian may leave me out of the know!
Another vote for "why? "

I'm such an outlaw. I break the pasta because I just don't care!
A kindred spirit! Absolutely, Val.
I always knew you were an outlaw, Boud!

Meatballs are cooked in the sauce in Italy but not served over pasta. This became a tradition With Italian Americans, Tommy.
I didn't realize it would be a mystery, Dreaming. My son sent this to me with a few laugh emoji! Answer below.
Val got it right, Lori!
It's long for a reason, to gather up the sauce as you twirl iy around the fork, AC.

Nooooooooo Ivy. Mend your broken ways!!!
My question is....why break the pasta? This inquiring mind wants yo know.
I break it because I hate feeding the long strands into the boiling water, slow, hazardous.
I break it all the time, then on my plate I chop it even smaller:) However we do not eat much pasta:)
Yeah, I like the spaghetti long, but there is one recipe where we break it up. Having said that, I do not remember anything about that recipe. 🤓
