The Cleaner

You ask, Sandra, what have you been up to lately? Well, now, since you asked. don't get excited, I've been slowly, cleaning and decluttering my office. Also known as the *if you don't know what to do with it, put it in here* room. The total of Sunday afternoon.

I have a household dust allergy. I have four room air purifiers. I have a room so full of dust I could build sand castles. Ok, maybe ant hills. I guess my brain thinks air purifies are automatic dusters or something. Anyway, the room is a disaster. Books, papers, framed photos and just..... stuff cover the desk, floor and the unused treadmill. I'm finding decluttering means rearranging. A new definition of the concept of clearing out.

It's hot and humid through most of the week. I had to turn the A/C on yesterday, which is something because I am stingy with that. Had I not, I may have melted away. I planned for this time to be used to clean and declutter rooms I tend to ignore. I think it will be room, not rooms at this rate of speed.

My best hopes you all are doing something much more fun than this.

The fun part is watching someone else do it.

Oh, I love those bookcases! Bookcases take a long time to clean and reorganize. They hold so much. (Ask one who had ten bookcases in a one-bedroom with den apartment--lol!) Those would have taken me a long time to clean, purge, and reorganize. Probably pull out one shelf at a time. But they do look just wonderful! Kudos! Take your time. Enjoy the process of touching all the treasures of your life. :)

Those shelving units are looking very good.

Watching me would probably drive you nuts, Boud. And watching someone else doing it would do the same to me!

I certainly am taking my time, Rita. Three down, one to go. One per day, whoopee! Then there's all the stuff on the flooring my desk. Ten bookcases, OMG!!!

Thanks, AC. Now for me to keep them this way.

I am in awe! I have that office except it is now referred to as my junk room. I am slowly starting the process, dragging out enough stuff to even start the sorting and hopefully purging. You are a dynamo! I am not making a dent and, honestly, I am getting overwhelmed before I really start. You go girl!

I'm getting things cleaned, Miss Merry, but I can't say I've done any purging. Other than some paper. Am I a hoarder? I'm going, like the tortoise, which did win in the end!

Never having seen the "before" Sandra, I think that your efforts have really paid off because the bookcase looks really good. Interspersing books with other items like photos or treasured keepsakes is so much more interesting than a book case with just books...at least to me.

I wish I could get motivated to start decluttering. Kudos to you!

Oh, I totally understand the "put it here" concept. We live by that. It's a miracle that my hubby can actually get into his office! It doesn't help that he does not throw things out. He has Home Depot bags with odds and ends in them. He has empty boxes from Amazon deliveries, etc. Thus, when in doubt about where to put something...I stand at the door, close my eyes, and toss! I love your gorgeous bookshelves looking oh - so - neat and tidy!

Good luck!

Ahhh, decluttering. I'm doing that very same thing. Though for a different reason. Now I can declutter and toss without the hoarder telling me that I can't.
Lots to do. But take it a bit at a time.

Your photo suggests you're decluttering quite successfully, but maybe other photos would be a bit different!

I did think of that, Dorothy, so I took a few photos yesterday of the mess. The shelves provide a place for not only books but all my various photo and stuff.

I wouldn't exactly say I have declutter, more like strategic moving, Lori. I'm slow, this is day number 4.

As I've aged, Dreaming, I have become more the person your husband is. I'll deal with it later. Then I don't!

Thank you!

It is a good way to occupy the mind, Val. It's not something to be done quickly.

Sandra said...

Not so much decluttering as de-messing, nick. The dust, oh, my.

I took a bunch of books that I have read to the local Little Library and only took one in return...that is progress:) Nice bookcase!

I love the look of your bookshelves and all those neat looking collectibles. You did a great job! I need to be reminded to do our dusting, so thanks for that. Tomorrow's job!

It looks like decluttering was a success. The bookshelf looks amazing.

Sandra said...

You are doing better than I am, Far Side.

Sandra said...

Thank you, Denise. Have fun!

Sandra said...

Thanks, Jane. Now to comes keeping it that way. That's become my struggle.

Ant hills. lololololol. This was a very funny and enjoyable post to read, Sandra. Love seeing inside your world. You write these up well. I feel like I'm right there. Glad you let yourself have the air on. I get it though. I used to be that way with putting the heat on. Back in the day.

Thanks, Ivy. If I don't laugh, well I don't know if I'd cry but I may want to! Energy cost has skyrocketed. I try to keep an eye on how we use it. Sometimes i just have to give in.
