Boud had asked for photos of my big Costco adventure but I got to replies after the fact. Since my life is rather narrow, as in a trip to Costco is an adventure, I saw this as I was getting ready for bed last night and knew it would make a fascinating blog post. Without further delay....fruit from the adventure! Tomatoes are, actually, a fruit, right?
I have a lot of cut glass and crystal. Most of the cut glass was my grandma's. I decided a while ago that instead of collecting dust in a cabinet it may as well collect dust on the counter with fruit. So I load them up.
I made a pot roast a few days ago, of which the leftovers became Wednesday's dinner. I don't like cooked carrots and Mark does, so he got the last of the potatoes and carrots. I opted for Brussels sprouts. Without the pot roast vegetables it doesn't look like much anything but some gravy covered meat. It was good all the same.
I've been spending time on the treadmill, just short slow walks throughout the day. I need to build up leg strength. I also have a pedal machine I haven't use for quite a while that I need to pull out. A few days ago I thought about the fact that I'm not getting any younger and if I want to be able to function as time goes on I had better take it seriously. So I'm trying. It's difficult for me to feel engaged at this time. Something many of us feel. But now is not the time to pull the blanket over the head. So.....that's that.

Agreed about being engaged. But without mobility we really can get into trouble.
I think it is awesome that you are using the treadmill, there were days I wished I had one. [No room]

Good, pretty glass! Some really nice pieces i think. If I could see them better I might be able to identify the patterns and age of some of them. That's a very pretty plate too. I'm with you, used those pretty things, that's what they were made for
I have a bike thing and trying to get in the habit of using it. My new knee gets stiff so easily, and still hurts all the time but the bike helps it. And yes, we will need our mobility if we plan to march this year. Which I plan to do.
I totally agree with you about using what you have. I get a good feeling when I use something that came from a family member or friend who has passed. I almost feel like they are smiling over my shoulder! And....our kids just don't want our 'old' things. Such a shame!
I have pulled my grandmother's bowls out like that and started using them too. No sense in having things sit on shelves or in cabinets. They look pretty with the fruit.
This is the next best thing to expedition pictures. I love glass and fruit in glass is lovely. Yes to using the dishes and glasses
I love that you use your "good" dishes for everyday. That's why I pulled my silverware out of the closet and use it daily now.
I finally got it through my brain that I'd better improve my mobility while I still have half a chance, Val.
We've been using the Waterford. I can't believe how much stuff I have, but then I remember once-upon-a-time I used to entertain. Mine is just the pedals but it pedals like a bike, not the ones that sort of glide, Sue.
I have a lot of family heirlooms, Dreaming, and I know my son doesn't care one whit about things like that. I feel sort of sad that I'm the end of the line. Now I'm going to think of grandma smiling over my shoulder.

I couldn't disappoint you, Boud!I don't use that part of the island for anything other than the food processor so why not use it for fruit in pretty bowls?
I have my mother's silver and my grandma's. One or the other gets used twice a year. Why? I need to consider this, Pixie.
We also have a roast to cook and went shopping to get potatoes. We got everything but, so we had to make another trip. I cannot stand raw carrots but like them roasted until they are partially black and no longer taster like carrots. Tomatoes as fruit is true but confusing.
I don't do any serious gym-type exercise. I go for a half-hour walk every day and that's it. Cross fingers, so far my legs have been fine. Hopefully I take after my mum who never needed knee or hip replacements.
Your crystal looks great! I would pick cooked carrots over the brussels sprouts!
Those pictures of your glass bowls are beautiful. Hurray for exercising! I do it for mental as well as physical health. ❤️
When the children don't seem to care about our heirlooms, as your children and my children do, I do hope they come around and take an interest. I have hope. That the attitude will change some.
Very much agree with you. Your crystal looks elegant and beautiful and nice to see it being put into use. I have a few things I need to follow suit so thank you for the inspiration. Love your pretty china too and your meals always look wonderful to me.
Gorgeous photo of your fruit ala crystal! I can't tell you the last year I made a pot roast. Used to love it with onions, carrots and potatoes. Guess I need to break down and just do it. You've got me goin'. Yep, moving is the way to go and kudos to you for getting on that treadmill.
I'm the opposite, AC. I like them raw. I know. I still believe I'm getting my vegetables when I eat them.
I'm more into rehab exercise than gym, nick. Back pain kind of sidelined me.

Maybe, Tommy. My son doesn't have the room for most of the family pieces, so there is that. He also isn't interested. Things are different now. More casual. I still like a well-set table!
