Dogdom

I am certain one and all are anticipating the day I would start going down the doggo memory lane. You will wait no more. Introducing two of my three bassets. These two did live together for two years. Lots of twos in there.

  Howard B. Hound
2007-2017
Basset Hound Extraordinaire

Murphy the Magnificent
2003-2018
Rescued Fella
2015

Are you going to eat that?

This Is Not a Yawn!
Howard worked himself up from a barely audible squeak until he reached this, full-blown howl that could shake the roof. It was all about biscuit time.

I do believe I've put enough photos up for you to catch the common Basset theme. They can be slugs. They are also incredible clowns and very stubborn beasts. They have a thing called 'flat basset'. When they decide they are not going to move, down they go and good luck to the poor soul who thinks they will move them. My friend and helper on the farm said it was like moving a wet bag of cement. With big-boy Howie it was probably two wet bags of cement.

The grandkids have (or maybe had, not sure) a Bassett in their other house.

You grandkids had the opportunity to be around a living, breathing cartoon, AC. They don't need to do anything and they still made me laugh.

That video and his voice made Hannah look around as if she'd found a Bassett in her house!

Great memories of fantastic dogs!

Beautiful, the most wonderful memories that will stay in your heart forever! I carry my first pug in my heart; she was 14 years old when I said goodbye to her forever. This other one, Ula, is now 12... I pray she will be with me for a looong time, life isn’t the same without her. Sending a hug and a kiss, Andreja!

Isn't it amazing how they get into your heart? Every dog I've had, even the puppy we only had a week got into my heart. Long story, mother dog didn't want it. It had seizures. We tried to keep it going but it wasn't to be. I still feel sad and it was 45 years ago.

The lady who sold us this house had a bassett, his name was Henry. Henry LOVED to howl. Aaaaahhhwoooooooo.

Yes, They fill us with joy, Andreja, They are all special and loved. I fell apart when Howard died. I am sending you good wishes for a long life foe Ula.

They do, Ami. We spend more time with them than we, or at least I, spend with any person. Howard had glaucoma for several years that required daily treatment. It's common in bassets. The last year of his life he developed congestive heart failure. I kept him alive for a year, longer than was predicted. When he died I felt like I lost a part of myself, which I guess I did. Losing a puppy would be terrible.

They are not apartment dogs. Neighbors don't want to hear them singing the song of their people!

Howie would thank you, Linda!

Sweet photos Sandra and truly adorable! Years ago our son had a friend who walked his Basset. On every walk he would suddenly become flat Bassett. He had to carry him home lots of times and it’s a fun memory.

I or probably anyone would not have been able to carry deadweight Howard. The fellow weighed 110 pounds! I'm happy you got to experience a basset and the fact basset syndrome, Denise.
