Stormy

There was another overnight storm along with a tornado warning. The weather has been volatile this past week. High temperatures with very high humidity will do that. In my elder years I have become extremely heat intolerant. I use extremely because it really is. I am now, with our weather change and my age, a complete winter gal. It does keep the cats quiet, so there is that. My spirit has been willing to work outside, my limited common sense has told me nope.

Gatto does not care what I do as long as he can sleep undisturbed. He does have some grey cells up there.

Yesterday Far Side mention she made potato salad, which then made me want potato salad. This is slightly different from the standard, made with tarragon and vinegar, as well as mayonnaise. No egg. There is enough left for lunch. I have some burgers I made then froze that will accompany the potato salad. A summertime meal if ever there was one.

I'm not very tolerant of heat either. Luckily the temperature here in NI seldom exceeds 20C. I was in Sydney once when the temperature hit 40C. It was unbearable.

I have never been good with heat, my northern UK heritage geared to damp cold. Now even less so. I do manage to cook still.

We always got more hot temperatures in July and August, nick. But not generally prolonged and definitely not this tropical humidity. It would get humid but this stuff is miserable.

I'm used to dry cold, Boud. Damp cold goes right to the bones!

I do remember being a little more tolerant of the heat when I was little but that may have been because we had no choice. Nobody had AC in their homes in the Minneapolis suburbs back then. I do remember bowls of ice placed in front of fans and sleeping on the cement floor in the basement to cool off and running through the sprinkler...so I wasn't ever a heat lover. As a treat on a hot night my dad would take us all to A&W for root beer in the frozen mugs with the handles. I remember us kids rubbing the mugs all over our cheeks to cool off. How did we ever survive without AC. I guess that was how. ;)

I have never met a potato salad I didn't like :) - I usually make macaroni salad because macaroni is a pantry staple. I am going to put potatoes on my grocery list.

I am definately a fan of potato salad and make it several different ways. You know I would love anything you prepare. As for heat...summer is no longer my favorite season. That series of 90+ days with high humidity kept me in the house much more than usual. Felt sorry for the horses. Tonight, I am very unhappy with the latest news.

Yum. I want potato salad and cold foods for hot nights and days.
I found that I can tolerate the heat and humidity as long as I don't spend a lot of time in the sunlight. If I can work in the shade or in the forest, it can almost be tolerable. I get soaked through with sweat. Oh wait, women don't sweat, we Glisten.

I will have a lot of work to do after todays storm.

I am having potato salad for lunch for a few days…it says Summer to me, I shared with Maddie and Noah too. I use Miracle Whip, Mustard, vinegar,a little sugar ,salt, pepper and then thin it with half and half for my goop! I want to be a cat!

Summer is not my favorite season either, so I commiserate. Please take it easy.

Sue can’t stand the heat at any time, and I don’t like it at night. I tend to turn the AC down more at night that in the daytime. Fortunately, many nights do cool down naturally.

We had an A&W close to where we lived, Rita. The root beer was so good! It wasn't as humid when we were growing up. It's the humidity that really does me in. I don't remember ice in front of the fan but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.

I am not a fan of German potato salad Miss Merry. Potatoes and pasta are a staple here. And rice. And sweet potatoes. My father and I were the only fans of sweet potatoes and wild rice when I was a kid.

Cold salads are just the thing to make it feel summery, Lori. Too bad it's often too hot to use the screened porch for meals! We are overwhelmed with bad news.

I just cannot, Val. Tomorrow is supposed to be a nice day. I hope so. Let me tell you, I sweat!!!

You got me motivated to make it, Far Side. Not that it's difficult, it sometimes just takes a nudge. Cats do know how to enjoy life.

It seems such a waste, Cheerful. All that needs doing and it's too hot to do it. I will take it easy.

I'm with Sue! I have a fan facing the bed which keeps me comfortable, AC.

Gatto sure is a pretty cat! It is 90 degrees here, hot and humid and we are under a flash flood warning. The day has been really pretty, sunny up to now but I think the clouds will be rolling in just like they did yesterday. I hope all goes well with you if you have another storm. Your meal looks scrumptious!

I have never experienced a tornado, or a tornado warning. That sounds very scary.

Welcome to July when the hot and humid weather may just be getting started, here in nashua, NH, as well. Last week is was really hot a few days followed by a cooldown and only a shower. THis week it's back to heat so Gatto has the best plan. I also make potato salad without eggs, but tarragon is something new so may add it this week, thanks for the suggestion, Sandra.

We had more rain, but no storm, Denise.

Sandra said...

Thanks, Linda. Cats know how to do it.

We were on the edge of a tornado in 2015. It took sown some trees but no other damage, Jane.

We have another week of high temps and humidity, Dorothy. Tarragon and some white vinegar are good in a potato salad.

Gatto has the right idea!

It amazing how many ways to make potato salad. I once add sauerkraut to many. Just a touch, not to heavy.

True story. I could eat potatoes EVERY STINKIN' DAY. So good.

That potato salad looks delicious! I was brought up when sometimes the potato was the main meal by choice, with lots of baked beans poured over the top. Never met a potato I didn't like, lol! I have never enjoyed this hot and humid weather, it makes me feel ill. I'm a fall/winter woman :)
