I thought I'd check in. I'm afraid not much has gone on in my world lately, as if that's a change. The PT gave me a new exercise she thinks I'm now ready for. Who would think using your abdominals while elevating your shoulders as you walk would be exhausting. Not me. Yes, it is exhausting. She said, which I know to be true, that people who slump forward think pulling the shoulders back is what works. It's not, obviously, because I've been trying that for years and yet here I am. Slumpy old lady. It seems I must retrain my muscles to allow my spine to straighten, which means I must pull up from the pelvis, while engaging my abs, while raising my shoulders. Say this three times fast. It's exhausting and somewhat painful. It works. When I look in the mirror I'm still somewhat forward but there is a definite difference. It does mean every time I walk not only do I need to engage all those parts, I must also engage my brain, as this is no longer muscle memory. Slumping is. This got long.
Different subject. Gatto alerted me to this unusual caterpillar on the door screen. It's new to me. It seems predators would easily spot such a bright colored fellow.
We had a nice light rain this morning so I don't need to water the plants. I've been looking for the motivation button but still haven't found it. If anyone has a clue where it's kept, let me know.

Nope fresh out of motivation buttons!
Dang!
What kind of fish??
That's interesting about rounded shoulders. Yes, I guess the chest area muscles would shorten and need to be strengthened again.
It's just tilapia. I wouldn't buy it for years but somewhere along the line I decided I would. I was surprised by what the PT told me and then when I saw the difference for myself I was really surprised. I'm also Kida shocked by how exhausting it is to do!
Your dinner looks delicious. My takeaway from my last PT is that I need to be mindful of lifting my left foot when I walk so I don't trip. It is amazing the mental energy I waste on walking and lifting my foot. This old age crap is, well, crappy.
Your dinner looks scrumptious 😋 Sandra. The caterpillar is unique and fascinating.
It all sounds very hard. My physiotherapist kept telling me I must stand up straight, even when doing so I feel like a yelp or two or three. All heading in the right direction I suppose, and I wish you the best with your own. What a lovely looking caterpillar. Your fish dish looks scrumptious!
I want that caterpillar! Well, not that one, particularly, but one like it. I love to show bugs to 'my' kids. I teach the ones who scream 'ewww' that we are now entomologists and the proper reaction is, "Ooh, how interesting!"
I have quite a collection of bug pics that friends have taken. Always fun to share them.
Dinner looks tasty, I don't eat a lot of fish, my favorite is coho salmon.
And it's been a LONG time, but brook trout almondine makes me weep with joy.
Slumpy me over here never thought about all those moving parts. I thank you for the information. Now...remembering to DO any of it is another story--lol! ;)
I really like tilapia. Had planned to make some tomorrow, actually...or whenever it thaws out--lol!
No clue on the caterpillar, but I've sure never seen one like that!
My motivation recently was just anticipation of the move. And having something to keep me from watching as much news--lol! ;)
I'm sorry it's painful.
The last sentence sums it up, Miss Merry.
You have come a long way baby! When I used to take dressage lessons my instructor would say "roll your shoulders" to get me in a good position. Slumping forward reminds me of being pulled by the nose! Gary has gotten in that habit sInce his hip replacement, but he keeps on moving. We are both gimps. Keep doing what you can do. Please send rain.
It is Linda. It’s new to me.
Did the therapist tell you how to stand straight, Denise? After four months mine said she felt I’d loosened up enough to start trying. She showed me what to do and had me practice.
Take the photo of you want it, Amy. I really like walleye but it’s so expensive now. I like trout.
Watching less news is a good thing, Rita. It is deflating. I am surprised how tiring it is to try standing straight. My muscles need to learn to loosen from the spine instead of holding it with a vice grip.
Me too, Ivy!!
I’ll try, Lori, but the weather doesn’t listen. If it did it wouldn’t be so humid. It’s tough when you need to alter how you stand and walk because of pain. The older we get the more difficult it is to set things right. Sometimes it’s not even a possibility.
Slumping. I get it. I used to get smacked by mom if I slumped in my chair while eating, doing homework, or anything. She'd have me stand up against the wall for posture. Posture posture...it was drilled into me so even now, I walk and sit with posture in mind.
Maybe I was lucky that way?
I hope PT can help you create muscle memory so it will improve things.
Oh...and I have walleye and pan fish. It pays to have a friend share his bounty!
Hubby's buddy has dropped off some fantastic foods for us!
Now if I could be a good cook!
I don't always remember to do it, but I try to walk and stand the Tai Chi way, pretending that my head is hanging from a string above and the rest of the body naturally falls into a good posture. I do need to remind myself to do it. Good for your PT and you!
I’m a bit slumpy.
Some serious back pain brought on the slump, Val. I probably will never be as erect as I was, but any improvement beats how I am.
I am sooo envious. I really like walleye, But it's something like $15-$16 a pound. I walk on by. Fish is simple to cook, look at all though guys that cook it on the shore.
I'll give this a try, Cheerful. I'm open to suggestions.
Not too much from what I see in the photos AC.
And now I have learned something, Sandra, because I also am a bit of a "slumper" too. And, no help in a motivation button because some days it's hard to get myself going but when I do accomplish a few things, it's a good feeling. So, now laundry is done and I am blog reading.
I'll have to try that when I'm walking. As for the caterpillar, it's probably very bitter or poisonous, or looks like something else that is.
I looked it up, the caterpillar is a Tussock moth caterpillar and the hairs sting like a bugger.
