Do you, like me, see a barrage of articles telling us how we should dress, what is in and what is out and what is in for home decor, lots about kitchens. Which is what leads me to this photo. I have a friend thirty years younger than I am. I've known her for twenty years. Last week she sent me a photo of her kitchen, where she had put in an open cabinet for pantry supplies she uses often.
We were talking on the phone and she asked me if it looked tacky because she has read, heard, this design advice often. Her siblings live by it. My response was; it's your home, you live in it in the way that you like and that works for you. I don't care to be a minimalist. I don't care if a wall color is now considered passé, if I have my counters filled with what I use daily or at least often. I use my kitchen. I live in my house. I like my office walls covered in photos and plaques.
All this to say to her quit worrying about what we are told to do by some obscure person and just live in your own home as you like. There are plenty of things we have in our lives which are often beyond our control. This is not one of them.
Okay, got that off my chest. Still cooking, I can do that. Remember the saying "cooking with gas"? Indicating you are doing well? I am literally cooking with gas and doing as well as possible.
Thank you all for your kindness concerning my continuing pain complaint. I do appreciate each and all.
*Blogger is insisting the middle paragraph be in large print. I concede.

First, my dear blogger friend, or should I say, friend who lives afar.. My comment is that I agree with you. No one should tell anyone how to live, where to live, and what to live in, etc. The first photograph, to me, is a well-used kitchen; I would gladly pull up a stool, eat an apple, and discuss what was cooking for Supper.
The 2nd photograph is yummy. I was having some stuffed bell peppers with boudin for supper yesterday.
That looks like a welcoming kitchen where actual food is cooked to enjoy. It gets my seal of approval. As do all the meals you show us. Nice home cooking.
There are so many features written about ten things you got wrong, eight mistakes you're making, these foods are killing you, etc. Etc. They're written for a paycheck. Comic relief. Not statutes.
My kitchen counter is full of pans that have seeds drying in them. Everyone is different and so our homes reflect that. Your home is literally your castle or domain.
My floor is sometimes littered with dog toys. My couch has blankets on it for snuggling and for the dogs to make beds with.
I suck at cooking but you know that.
My China cabinet displays Legos and cool toys.
We live not for the decisions of others on what our home 'should' look like, but for ourselves.
Yum. I'm going to drive to your place sometime and eat....or to Lori's house--but she is further away!
I really don't follow fashion trends with clothing or house decor. I know what I like and what I don't like. I love your kitchen. It shows that it is used for what it is intended for. Enjoy your Sunday!
Your dinner looks fabulous!!!
My decorating style is "We Live In This House", lol.
Your dinner looks delicious, Sandra! As far as decor and fashion go, I don't follow any trends! I do what pleases me. I live alone and have been living alone since 1998 and I really don't care what others think, I do what is right for me and what makes me happy.
I used to have a plaque in my front entryway.
Excuse the mess, but we live here.
Also guilty of telling people if you want to come see us, great. If you want to come see the house, make an appointment.
I'm an indifferent housekeeper. If someone doesn't like the way things look, they should not come over. :)
I don't follow the advice of people who aren't me when it comes to my home and how things 'should' be and I really don't think anyone else should, either.
That said, I'd really like to come visit you sometime, your home always looks lovely and inviting.
I have often commented to my hubby about this very thing! Especially "influencers" 40 years or more younger than me telling me how to live. Good grief.
You do you. I think your kitchen looks lovely.
I'm with you! Live and let live. You and I would be very comfortable in each others kitchens and the other rooms too. Glad you are cooking with gas!!!!! Yes! I want you and Val to come here for a visit...old home week for people who have never met in person.
We should be true to ourselves not too other selves.
If that is your kitchen, I am awestruck.
I hope the pains take at least a little break soon.
you do what makes you happy in your own home, that's what I say!!! Lovely kitchen photo.
Ha, to each his own in the kitchen! I hope you have a good week.
Yes! It's our home!
Your kitchen shows that someone enjoys cooking as we know you do. Unfortunately, our galley kitchen doesn’t have a lot of counter space, so I envy yours, Sandra.
This scenario would make me very happy, Tommy!
I will give that meal a big thumbs up, Tommy!!
Comic relief! You always are able to whittle it down the the point, Boud. Maybe empty counters appeal to those who don't cook, not to me or you.
I live in a cat house, Val. My sofas are made up as cat beds.It is their domain, they allow us to perch here.
Wouldn't that be a fun trip!
As I told my friend, Lori, an hour before I took the photo that space was stacked with dirty dishes!
The perfect style, Miss Merry.
As Boud said, this 'advice' is attached to a paycheck and we get none of it, Linda!
I have welcomed fellow bloggers from near and far in the past, Ami. The door is still open. 😉
We do tend to mirror one another, Lori. I knew this years ago when I saw not only the horses but the Wassily chair!
I love your eclectic style, Sue.
Thank you, Pixie.
I'm too old to change, even if I wanted to, AC. I am hopeful.
Thanks, Gil.
Thank you, Far Side.
That's what I said to my friend, Cheerful. And the open cabinet did not look tacky.
I do most of my work on the stainless steel prep table, Dorothy. Counters hold what I need to use.The two of you work well together.
Too true about all the torrent of articles saying we should do this, that or the other thing because it's fashionable or the latest trend bahblah. Jenny and I have furnished our house according to our own wishes and the so-called trend setters can take a running jump.
You put it just as I feel it, nick!!
I'm with you. I don't give two rats and a banana leaf what is in or out. I use my kitchen. A lot. I film in my kitchen too. A lot. I bake and cook a lot. And I long time ago ripped out the upper cupboards and replaced one wall with peg board and you know what? I love it. I don't give a banana leaf what someone else thinks of my bright yellow, pegboard, homemade kitchen table, work space.
As for clothes, I'm a photographer and I wear mostly all black every ding dong day. Who cares what the fashion police say. They can suck it. Twice.
You gave your friend excellent advice Sandra. Do what works for you. I love your kitchen and your meals always look delicious.
We cook with gas.
Sandra, thanks for the visit, I don't know why it doesn't want to translate the text for me... you have a wonderful kitchen, I really like it a lot!
Hug for Tuesday, Andreja!
Good advice to your friend. An open cabinet for the things you use every day makes more sense to me than hiding them behind doors. Hope the pain eases up soon, Sandra.
The pegboard is a great idea, Ivy. Bright yellow brightened my day. Two rats and a banana leaf! 😄
We have that in common, not photography but black clothes, Ivy. You are funny.
As Boud pointed out, it's all about marketing, Denise.
As well as figuratively, Dora!
I'm sorry it won't translate, Andreja. Always something, isn't there.
Makes sense to me, too, Diana. I have an open pantry. Thanks for the good wishes.
We got the idea from Julia Child with the pegboard.
lolololol
Please tell your friend her kitchen is beautiful, not at all tacky.
The stone wall behind the counter, it is something I've been planning to recreate when we begin construction next year.. I saw something like that back in a place called Thiruvannamalai, in a state I live. (It's a 3 hour drive from the city) in one of the places we love to dine. I travel there with my dad every year for the deepam festival.
These walls do last hundreds of years.
And I agree with every word of yours here. My dad keeps saying, 'A house can look lived in'. We do not have to let anyone describe what our kind of perfect or beautiful is. Every kitchen or house has a character on its own.
I took a minimalist approach 5 years ago, but when I then started hosting people, I started stocking up mason jars with nuts and snacks, and sometimes I leave the pantry with colorful food and fruit on display. Nothing looks minimalistic here anymore. But now, I enjoy my time in my kitchen more.
Your plate of food looks appetizing. :)
Wishing you a lovely week! (I am on your blog for the first time. Loved being here)
Hi Lancy. Thank you for your visit and thoughtful comment. There are so many places and times in our lives we must conform to societal pressure. In our home we can and should be free to be as we like.
kitchens are meant to be used...yours looks loved.
