15 years ago I had long dark hair and I was beginning my life as a horse breeder. I had hope and happiness rolled together, as well as a belief that a good horse is a good horse, no matter who owns it.
10 years ago I realized I was wrong 15 years ago, a good horse may be a good horse, but who owns it determines whether it is PERCEIVED as a good horse. The first stake planted in my heart.
5 years ago I decided, screw it, a good horse is a good horse and I'm going to pursue it, so 4 years ago I spent a lot of money, emotion and time to do that with WF Last Of Roses. Point made, now move on.
OK, this is horse related because horses are, for better or worse, my life. But not all of my life, I pay attention to the happenings of the world.

3. My son is so smart I don't know how to talk to him but I relish the opportunity he avails me to stretch my understanding.
4. My husband's absorption in sports baffles me.

6. I realize I can be a difficult and exacting person, but that explains why most everything makes me crazy!

Wow, only 15 years ago you began your life as a horse breeder! So you obviously were not afraid to try something new : ) Did you always work with horses in other ways? I sort of feel that at 33 I could not even hope to enter in the 'horse' world as I am too 'old' to start a totally new interest. However, taking up new things as life goes along keeps it interesting, that is for sure.

Jean, I'm not sure! Ashley posted some things about her life, starting when she graduated HS and through to the present and then she put out 6 random things about herself. I was tired last night when I put mine up, if I had waited till morning I could have made it soooo much more interesting.
Ashley, I have had horses for every decade of my life, except for most of the '80's. I bought a mare which came with a breeding and that is how I started breeding horses. I found I liked it and that I was good at it. It's never too late to venture into something new until you are dead. Then it's too late!
Jean L. has been training and breeding for somewhere around 30 years and I bought a mare and a stallion breeding from her, as well as bringing her many horses to train over the years.
Yes, how we met is a strange thing, you never know how things will transpire!

15 years ago I acquired my stallion, Beau Decision, and started breeding horses. I had been married for 5 years and we had been on our farm for 5 years.
10 years ago I was contemplating children, because of the biological clock ticking away, had a change in careers, from production type work to Mechanical drafter due to an injury.
5 years ago, I found myself as a mother of two boys, ages 3 and 2 and unable to keep up. Sold my stallion and hauled him to PA, www.cedarwindsfarmllc.com, cried all night in our hotel room.
1 year ago found myself fitting in fairly well at another new job with more responsibility than I ever wanted. Living an active life with 2 very active boys. In recovery mode financially after my husband’s accident and hanging onto our home be a thread.
Yesterday – literally found I need a hysterectomy and that will end a cycle of pain I’ve had for years (hopefully)
Today – I’m sitting at my desk dealing with a production issue as our site manager is out and we are unable to make some parts to the customer’s specifications – the parts need to ship today. Thinking ahead to soccer practice tonight and thinking I ought to get out and work with my “shiny black exercise project”. Also trying to figure out what to do about my husbands hours being cut recently – I had a 2nd job at a gas station about a year ago and they offered it back to me this morning when I stopped in for my daily Coke. Trying to figure how to make that work.
Tomorrow – hoping to be able to handle whatever may come my way!

I guess I didn't do all of this. So: 1 year ago I realized I probably will not breed any of my mares again. I met Kristina, which turned into one a the very good things in my life and Zing went back to work.
Yesterday we had a breakthrough with Zing and he found self-carriage. I also had a loose horse and a moment of drama!
Today I hope to find where the problem with the hot wire is so I don't have a loose horse again. I am looking forward to the VP candidates debate tonight.
Tomorrow I will be having a rant about the VP debate!

Yes, it was about 15 years ago - but I was actually breeding horses before then - just didn't have my own stallion, the last straw was hauling 3 mares to Kansas City to be bred (to a half brother of Beau's) and paying board on them all summer to have only one of those mares come home in foal. We bought Beau that winter.
I sure know about spending lots of money and getting nothing for it. Breeding horses is one of the fastest ways to lose money I have been able to find!
Looking forward to your VP rant. i think I won't be able to see it : ( Is it broadcast on the net I wonder???
Just finished another lesson and learned that I have been guiding my horse incorrectly most of the time. Now that I worked that out, I was amazed at how much more responsive my poor horse was. He has got to be a saint for patiently putting up with my incompetence!!!

Are you still riding Ghost? What were you doing and how did your instructor correct you?

I was riding Ghost. I was pulling the reins out as in moving my left arm to the left when I wanted to go left instead of pulling my left arm towards my body. I was also sort of moving my right arm to the left also during a left turn and making the rein sort of pull over his neck. Keep in mind, that as I am riding, the instructor in the center of the oval is calling our instructions to Sienna, another girl and I in Portuguese! I get about 50 % of his comments and the rest of the time I just try and do what everyone else is doing: ) So he may have verbally corrected me before but I may have missed it. Today he came to me and moved my hands correctly to show me the correct procedure. I was like, "Aha!" that is how it works :)
We rode a complicated course today that included many straightaways with tight turns to the left or right. Sort of riding in squares instead of circles and I think my bad reining was very obvious today. Ghost did not 'fight' me with his head when I reined correctly and his gait stayed smoother. I am loving the class.
Sienna had another difficult day today, but although she did cry, she stayed on the horse and kept going. Her horse did not like taking the tight corners and when the horse sort of shakes his head or does not take the turn that she is asking for, she gets sort of panicky and then loses her focus and then the horse stops obeying etc... This time the instructor talked to her. Firmly asserting his belief that she could control the horse that she just had to let him know that she meant business and not to let a little 'complaining' from the horse scare her. I was proud that she took her next turn with a more confident and firm hand on the rein and used her riding crop to encourage him to keep his trot up and not stall out. Using the riding crop sort of scares her. She thinks of it as 'hitting' the horse. I told her to think of it as 'tapping' the horse and she seems to like that idea better. Her horse is quite elderly and docile and kind of lazy : ) you really have to stay on him to keep up a nice quick trot. I think that sticking with this is gonna be good for her. She tends to get so embarressed also and I hope she can learn to laugh at herself through this learning experience. I saw a lot of improvement in her response today!

15 years ago I was living in Zurich, Switzerland. My appaloosa gelding "Spencer" went to my sisters farm for 4 years while I was gone. My life consisted of travel and wonderful cultural experiences, but I was very isolated from world events. I had 6 weeks paid vacation every year, and took off for Paris, Munich, Italy or wherever for a long weekend every month.
10 years ago we were getting used to home-ownership here in St. Paul. Bill was performing with a popular band and doing some touring, so I had lots of free time to ride Spencer and form a social network at Triple S where he was boarded. I also discovered tack swaps around this time!
A year ago I had an immense crush on the tall Park Ranger and thought about changing my whole life. It didn't happen! I still think about him.
Yesterday I took my nephew to hear Bill play at a gig with Jeff Arundel in Excelsior.
Some movers and shakers were there, and the musicians were so kind to my nephew.
Today I went to church and gave Sinclair his flu-rhino vaccine, but the threat of rain kept me out of the saddle.
Tomorrow: Mamogram.

Jean, I never did find out why you went to Switzerland. I've lead a very boring life.
Ashley, I can't get past the fact that you can understand even 50% of the Portuguese! I hope you and Sienna continue your riding and involvement with horses.
