I do believe the stress of the past several days caught up to me. I slept until 8:45 this morning. This is unusual, but I think I needed it. It's overcast outside, which helped me sleep longer than normal.
I didn't have any oomph yesterday, surely for the same reason. I pulled out my 1976 version of Better Homes and Gardens cookbook to make baking powder biscuits. I have several different recipes collected over the years but this is an old standby.
I use butter instead of shortening and a little more milk, otherwise I don't change it. Baking powder biscuits are basic. I like ciabatta rolls for sandwiches, I didn't have any, so I made biscuits. Quick, easy, done.
Years ago I was watching a TV cook, one who made easier, less fuss French food. Perhaps I should say, cuisine, as it's French. I will always remember something she said in a particular episode: the French consider bacon a vegetable. That was all the justification I needed for my love of bacon.
I'm still not up to par, mentally or emotionally, which is keeping me off the step ladder. I don't want to over-stimulate myself with joy in cleaning the chandelier. I think I'll make some bread, at least one loaf of ciabatta for the Thanksgiving dressing. Mark quizzed me yesterday on the supplies I have on hand for "his" day. Mark was born November 26 and has always considered, at least since I have known him, Thanksgiving to be his. I may make an actual apple pie instead of a galette. Maybe.
No matter what, never let the cat out of the bag. Just a reminder.

Bacon as a veg. That's a hoot. Here's to your oomph returning.
I love baking powder biscuits, and scones. I have a Joy Of Cooking and for some reason I thought of it this morning. It's an old cookbook but it has everything in it, even how to make cheese.
Hope you have a good day and bacon truly is a gift from the gods, or pigs really.
Good idea to stay off step ladders right now. A bit of baking sounds good.
These days, one could be forgiven for being tempted to throw oneself off a ladder.
I think she gave the go-ahead to eat bacon, Ivy!
I like them, too, Pixie. I do like the ease of them. Don't want to roll dough? Make drop biscuits
I think it's a good idea, too, Boud. I mixed bread dough.
No kidding, AC. A friend sent me a clip with info from the American Immigration Council. The disaster awaiting us if they attempt even some of this is monumental. Then there's the cabinet appointees. Maybe I should get on that ladder.
I always think Britain should have Thanksgiving, so we can also give thanks for all the good things that have happened to us.
Fingers crossed you'll be okay on the stepladder.
My same cookbook is packed away. Got it brand new when I got married in 1972. My Mom had one too! Old treasures. It all looks yummy, too. :)
At one time we had that cook book.
Britain has a Harvest Festival instead which is similar but with out having to cook an Xmas meal.
I have that exact cook book and just used it this week! Many pages are ragged and pulled out. The political scene has kept me and my friends in the toilet, but I don't plan on giving up on what our futures might bring. We can't let His Majesty ruin our lives. Hopefully all the threats will not be able to be carried out and I hope some of the people in his party will not knuckle under.
My mom had that book...I hope things feel better for you soon, love the cute cat. Mercy is purring and sucking on her blanket.
Finally I have a favorite vegetable! Bacon! I knew I liked the French. I was married in 1976 and received that cookbook as a shower gift. I loved it to death and went to replace it. I never dreamed they replaced or updated cookbooks! I didn't want an updated one! I wanted my original!!!!
