Horses

The old boys club.

Laddy 27, Ben 26, Bounce 24, and Scamper 23.

My oldest is a mare, Babe, the first born to my foundation mare, LF Diamond Rose. Babe is 32. Mama Rose died giving birth to Zing in 2001. His registered name is WF Last of Roses, his barn name, Zing is also a tribute to his dam. If she wanted something she would zing her teeth up and down the stall door bars. She was also called Jailhouse Mama when she did that. That was a tough year, six foals, one an orphan. I didn't have a chance to grieve her loss, so I carried the pain for a couple of years. I adored that mare.

Mama with Topper (WF Impressive) 1997-2025

I think the horse infatuation is born into us. It tends toward the female but not exclusively. There is just something about them that grabs and holds. There is a saying in the horse world. "How do you make a small fortune in horses? Start with a large one."

Truly Very Quality Bloodlines.. Growing up on a farm in rural Louisiana, I understand the matter of good, strong bloodlines.

I imagine that we could all be, or mostly all be, horse people, but most of us don't get the opportunity. They live long, so the attachments must run deep indeed.

What beautiful horses, Sandra. My sister Judy caught the horse fever and at one time had a riding stable with 27 of them. She now has 3, and they are all in their mid to late 20s.

"How do you make a small fortune in horses? Start with a large one." I like it. That could apply to many other things of course.

I enjoyed breeding, Tommy. I loved watching the foals grow up, their joyful antics. All so different in their ways. Mark grew up on a dairy farm. I grew up in a city!

Yes, they are Cheerful.

Horses are wonderful beasties, AC. That they put up with us is a miracle.

Sue, fever is the right word. There are those who like and enjoy them. Then there are those with the fever! You've had the opportunity to know horses, that's wonderful.

A friend gave me the idea for two barn names, Lori. Bounce was on his feet so soon after birth, hopping around the stall. My friend said he was full of bounce. The other, Scamper, did just that in the stall soon after birth. She commented he scampered.

I could go on for a whole lot of years, Boud!

Yes, it could. But horses literally eat you out of house and home. Then there is the showing urge!

I am so sorry you went through that pain. I enjoyed seeing your horses. The only times I've been around them are rare, but I think they are beautiful animals and so regal.

I've always had them in my life, Denise. They are good companions.
