Sharing the Sky

One of my pigeons and the guy in the flying machine are sharing a little space. What a lucky shot!

Haha! How funny. When you say, "my pigeons" do mean that you raise pigeons? Just curious : )

Bye bye

Hope you enjoy the pizza!

No, I don't raise pigeons, they came with the farm! Every fall a man comes and collects most of them. He trains his hunting dogs to flush birds with pigeons. This usually leaves me with about 10. After a week or so, the captured birds start straggling back and I end up with a whole lot of pigeons again. Pigeons have a 'homing' instinct, so although the man is about 45 miles away, they come home.
He told me my birds are larger than average and that is a sign of a established flock. Oh, goody!

How interesting and unusual! I have never of hunting for birds with birds. I guess it is like fighting fire with fire : ) It sounds like the pigeons have a pretty dangerous job but as a nice place to come back home to : )

Bye for now!

I didn't explain it right. He doesn't hunt birds with birds. He has bird dogs and he teaches the bird dogs to flush birds from the brush by using pigeons. He doesn't shoot the pigeons because he doesn't want to teach his dogs to retrieve pigeons, so once they are set loose they return home. Most come back., but a few seem to find someplace else to hang out because I always have less after he has collected them.

I like them, but not as many as I have had the past few years.
