Nelly is the black greyhound. Chloe was a Dalmatian/Lab cross. These fuzzy photos were about 1991 in our house in Saint Paul. Jessie and Nelly were from the racetrack in Hudson, WI. Chloe briefly belonged to a neighbor who did not know what they got themselves into with a high-strung puppy so she soon became mine.
Chloe loved the foals. She would lay in the stall with them, the mares weren't bothered by her. This is with the newborn Ari, a Lipizzaner/Arabian in 1997. Nelly is in the paddock doing what Nelly did, also Ari and his Dam, Sun Spot. Nelly was a complete clown. She was also a thief. She would packrat her finds at the east end of the house, both inside and out. She would wear the battery down for her invisible collar. She figured out the beep and would spend a lot of time at the boundary until she didn't hear the beep and then have a jolly time running the neighborhood. We had to take the warning away for her.
Greyhounds are wonderful dogs, big time couch potatoes. Dalmatians are more of a handful. Chloe became less so when she got older. She was a very protective dog.
It feels like the dog days of summer, so why not make it so here.

Handsome partner's Dalmatian came to him when her first owner couldn't deal with her lunacy! She promptly attached herself to me like Velcro, though I was splitting my time between two homes, so when I appeared she went mad with joy. They were originally bred as coach dogs, trotting after horses up to 25 miles a day. A stable is a great environment for them. Horses know all about them.
True about greyhounds and couches. They're trained for very brief high speed runs followed by many hours in crates. When they discover the couch, they're in heaven!
Boud, the mares were not disturbed by Chloe's need to be with the foals. Maybe they saw her as she saw herself....protector. She was a maniac as a puppy!
Greys make good apartment dogs, they can sleep 22 hours out of a day! I really like them and had three. I'll post Grace another time. I also had another basset before Howard, his photos are on a disk somewhere. Grace and Howie were quite the pair!

It is so much fun living with animals.
We have extensive horse paddocks nearby owned by various owners and associations, including the police cavalry squadron.
It is a feast for the eyes to experience the many different horse breeds.

Viola, I raised Arabians and Arab/Saddlebred and Arab Lipizzaner crosses. I've had Saddlebreds and I owned a Begian Quarter horse cross when I was a kid! I saw the horses on your last blog post, pretty foal.
I love seeing your old dogs. Charlie is fast becoming a loving part of our family. He's so seet.
What wonderful dog friends you have had over the years. "Dog Days" are a perfect time to celebrate them!

Dog Days already...usually that is August up here...but I enjoy Dogs any time of the year!
Enjoyed catching up on your past few blog posts, Sandra, even though I did not comment on each one. Howard and Murphy the Bassest were quite the characters. Gatto seems to be adjusting to Keetah's absence.
Pixie, he sure seemed to settle in easily, which is always a relief.
Kaye, it certainly feels like dog days. It's been so hot and dry. I enjoy looking at my doggie photos, too.
Far Side, it's August here as well. But it has been miserably hot and dry. It feels like we should be in August.
Beatrice, Howard and Murphy were characters. Murphy adored Howard. Gatto is doing well.
