I am a sap. I love the darkening of the season. There is a comfort in it for me. I know it can cause a depressive feeling in many people, but it is an emotional lifter for me. I love a fire and my amber light bulbs with the soft glow cast across the room. Of course, a kitty cat lounging on a piano adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the atmosphere.
Nothing is ever complete without a Gatto pose.
Now, off the sap of my emotion and onto the sapping of my energy. I did what I said I was going to do on Friday. I stained the lower section of the east end of my house. It took me 4.5 hours to do it. I was surprised by that, but I was determined to be done with it. So I finished. My body was so sore, let me tell you, I wondered whatever happened to my life. I still have trim to paint, which will wait until midweek, as we are in a chilly period for a couple of days.
Yesterday I finished, or Mark finished, bringing in the rest of the plants, since we will have nights below freezing. I read petunias can do well inside over winter if they get enough light. The southeast corner gets plenty of winter sunshine, so fingers crossed. They are too pretty to just let them freeze.
There are no tasks for today. I plan to make zucchini/carrot fritters as a side for dinner, so that can be prepped in advance. Perhaps some bread may be made. Otherwise, a pottering, quiet day is expected.

Love the photos. I get that same feeling from fall, although I don't like driving home in the dark. ::sigh::
We got up this morning and went to Costco. It opens at 10. I was expecting it to be crazy, but it wasn't bad at all. We were in and out in 45 minutes and home an hour and 10 minutes from the time we left.
I am cooking this afternoon, I am getting ready to make bbq sauce. I can't eat commercially prepared ones, I get a headache. But I have a GREAT recipe.
Rest up. It helps repair you.
I am also one of the people who loves the early evenings and the chilly weather coming in. Makes me want to light candles...and having any cat around is always a plus--lol! Freeze warning up here, too. Stay warm! Rest and recover. :)
I don't mind the darker evenings either. I lik a bit of cosy. I'm writing this sitting on the deck in warm sun though!
I love the coolness of fall and don't mind that it is darker.
I felt similarly when I made my sauerkraut balls after Christmas. What used to take me an hour took a day and I knew if I stopped halfway, I would never finish. I can't get used to the fact that I move slower and things take longer. I personally feel in the scheme of things I am not THAT old but I guess the universe sees it differently.
Have to say the increasing darkness does have a depressive effect on me. Something about the darkness hiding everything. But I do my best to ignore it and keep my spirits up.
I like the light but I also like the dark as well. That photo of your sitting room is beautiful, especially that cat:)
I used to go to Costco on Sunday mornings. it's a great time, no one is there. I've made bbq sauce, I don't know if I've had a great recipe, though.
Birds of a feather! I really like the coziness of winter. It's very windy and cold here.
I also don't think of myself as old. It surprises me sometimes . What does that say? I don't think I'm delustional!
So many people feel depressed with the darker days. It has an opposite effect on me. Light some candles and enjoy a book!
The piano is a favored cat perch. They get a wide view of their property.
I like candles, Rita. Remember when hygge the buzzword? Right up my alley. Cats and snuggles, ah yes. We are going below freezing, too.
I am with you on what the darkening of the season brings. There is something about the fire we have going in the kitchen that puts me in a very cozy and mellow mood. Also makes me want to cook (except for tonight). I don't do windows! Gary does. You are a star. The light in the photographs is exquisite!
What a great looking room. It even looks good without the cat, but not quite as good. 😀
Pretty photo in the golden light! Good to hear you got that big job of staining done!
I love the creeping darkness of fall. I feel safe and cozy in my "snug" room aka the TV/computer room. I light the candles and settle in.
Your rooms seem to glow with warmth and comfort.
Take Care,
Kaye
For fall I like to watch leaves fall. It quite peaceful to me.
Your Home after Dark is so very Inviting and looks so Peaceful. I like Autumn for a variety of reasons, it's my favorite Season of all.
That light inside your house is beautiful and very relaxing. It is exactly what is needed to hibernate on a cold day or night!
A day doing nothing and just relaxing is a good Day!
That fire in your kitchen makes me want to move in. I also enjoy cooking and the winter food, braising and stewing....pure joy. Of course Gary does the windows. The guy who gets on the ladder to paint your huge house!
The cats complete the room, AC. :)
I have amber colored light bulbs in the lamps. It gives such a warm feeling to the room. I'm happy I thought of it last year, Far Side.
Me, too, Kaye. I always feel a bit sad when the days start to grow longer. The glow is from the amber bulbs. One of the better things I found.
Yes, it is a beautiful time of year, Dora.
Are temps still in triple digits in AZ, Dawn? After this summer I bet you will enjoy fall and winter!
Deciding to try amber light bulbs was a good choice. I rarely use the lamps during summer and the glow in winter is calming, Val. You should try it.
