A Day in the Life

Sunday morning my son, Matthew, came for a visit for my birthday. I made pumpkin/walnut bread and he brought cinnamon rolls. There was a sugar high being had. We had a nice visit and then he had to leave to shovel snow. He volunteers with an organization that aids seniors living in their homes who need help with things like shovelling. He has two seperate ladies he shovels for. He gets great satisfaction from helping people who are in need and are over the moon grateful for the help. I am proud he does this.

Then I lit a fire and had this dude.

He amuses me no end. The same can be said for annoying me. Gatto was looking for a way in. He wouldn't have liked it if he managed to find a way. It was cold yesterday. This morning it's -5 F and will be this way for awhile. It's January and can be and has been much worse.

Last early evening we had a bit of excitement. I caught movement out of the corner of my eye and when I looked I saw one, then two, three and four horses walking under the yard light. Oh Oh. I started to head out then remembered it was -6 F and grabbed a sweatshirt. I saw them just as they were heading toward the front yard and into the dark. I got to the barn, told Mark to grab one of the horses out of a stall and follow me. Of course, the trouble-making Ivy was leading the the pack of miscreants and had brought them back to the yard light. When they saw Mark with Scamper I told Mark to go back to the barn and take him inside as soon as the mares, and Zenny, got down there. One, two, three, four naughty horses went inside, I slid the door closed and then we had a rodeo roundup. Why just go to your stalls when you can get everyone riled up and why not taunt the stallion while you are at it? They saw no reason not to.

Problem solved. Isabella got the latch on the gate opened somehow and they took a romp. Except for my old grey mare, Babe. She just walked into the barn, according to Mark. She's too old for such foolishness and there was grain waiting for her.

Lilies Matthew brought me. I really like the color.

I guess smart horses get bored and look for a bit of hell to raise. Good thing you saw them before they became horsicles!
That pumpkin walnut bread is just my thing. Also maybe toasted and buttered, if there's any left.

You had a good visit! Your round up sounds exciting!

At least you found them before anything else happened. The birthday visit, blooms and food sound lovely. The rain and relative cold here are climate change. It is 70 and raining at the moment. Different from one day to the next.

Horses like to break jail but then they don't know what to do. They will usually, at least mine, stay where it's familiar unless something really spooks them. I've been down this hole a few times, Boud. A couple of those times got a little scary. The pumpkin bread is good. That's what I rarely make it!

The visit was good, the horse roundup could have been worse. I was frozen by the time I got in the house. Slipper shoes, a sweatshirt and no hat and gloves, Far Side brrrr.

They tested my mettle, e. Yes, it's climate change. We are warmer, both summer and winter and summer is now terribly humid. Noy my cuppa. Rollercoaster weather is not fun.

The horses thought they had got away with their little outing, but they were mistaken!

Ahhh, pumpkin bread with walnuts! So good! Your son sounds like he is a very thoughtful guy....love the flowers he brought you. So glad everything worked out with the horses and that you all knew what to do. I'm not looking forward to the weather you are sending our way! Stay warm!

Oh man that is tooooo cold for me!! I grew up in Eastern Oregon and in Colorado, and I know what cold is, but that doesn't mean I like it! Living in W. Oregon now, and 40 seems too damn cold. :) Glad you caught up with all the horses before things went bad! And your Matthew sounds like a fine person. We need more of them.
