We are having slightly cooler weather for a couple of days. Appreciated. I may go out to mow weeds. We listened to the album Nebraska last evening, Bruce Springsteen. I saw him in concert in the mid-eighties when I lived in Atlanta. I've always found it ironic that I also saw Prince in Atlanta, the guy from Minnesota. Where I am from. Prince lived at his studio, which is about a fifteen minute drive from where I live. Little tidbits of useless information.
I started listening to Matthew Perry's book, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. So far, I like it. He is reading his own story, which makes a difference. Blogging is, when you think about it, our story. Little glimpses into lives of people we most likely will never meet. Strung together, there is a story. One of cats, dogs and soup in my case.

Good to feel up to mowing. Just being out in this nice weather is a treat.
I find that I get distracted when authors read their own books. It started for me with the New Yorker fiction podcast, which sometimes features the author reading the story. I feel like they shouldn't. I recently tried to listen to a book by a New Zealander who came to Denmark for love - Nothing like a Dane - and I thought I would relate so much. But, I found her kiwi accent totally annoying and flat and it was all so negative and really not improved by her reading it. In fact, it was so bad, I couldn't finish it.
That said, I liked that Prince Harry read Spare. And I imagine that it's different with Matthew Perry, since he's trained in such things, being an actor.
As for that hopefulness, I hear you. And I find I just have to kind of stay away from it all, not to get that off-kilter feeling.
Springsteen, Prince! WOW! I always thought and still do think that Prince was more talented than Michael Jackson.
The photo was heart warming and sad. Tears, for lost dear ones.
As you know I find your stories/blog most interesting. You are a clever and witty writer.

I only listened to books on tape when I was working as a security officer, I'd listen to other guard's books. I'd mostly get the middle of a story and never the full story which was kind of fun and odd.

I take news breaks...in that I don't listen to the news or anything political...I have a mute button and I wish there was a Good news Only channel! I find I don't watch regular TV much anymore:) Enjoy the cooler weather...we are and the smoke isn't too bad today:)

julockha, I have listened to several authors read their books. I feel they know better than anyone what feeling they have in their words. I don't like to say it, but I have a very hard time understand the New Zealand accent.
Matthew Perry is a droll person, I can't imagine anyone else speaking his story.
I don't listen to the news but it's impossible to escape it. As far as climate change, I simply need do nothing more than look out my window.
Kaye, I am not a musician but music is a large part of my life. I have seen so many bands and solo performers, as well as operas and orchestras. Not anymore, but I had a life of it once.
Matthew Perry talks about having a fast brain and a fast/smart mouth. I understand, I also understand why.
Val, my preferred medium is audiobooks. I very much enjoy someone reading to me. I don't know if it has anything to do with no one doing that when I was a child or if I just like it for itself. I may feel like myself if I ever figure out what that is!

Sandra, I hope that the nicer weather will have you feeling better. I recently finished listening to Matthew Perry’s book and was amazed at what he shared about his life and not all of it was good things.
Beatrice, I'm halfway through the book. He is brutally honest about himself.
I think we're all a bit or a lot off kilter due to the Political Climate and Actual Climate, and it's no where we want to go with either, so I understand. I knew Prince lived up North and had a Compound there, being a Local I'm sure that afforded him a level of Privacy he couldn't have enjoyed elsewhere. That's how Alice Cooper is here in Phoenix, he can walk about among us, we all know who he is, but he can be like every other Local since this is where he's from.
Dawn, Prince was born and raised in Minneapolis. Minnesotans are a rather aloof bunch of people, so even though everyone knew where he lived it would be highly unusual for anyone to breach his privacy. I don't know if you know who Garrison Keiller is, he had a show, Prairie Home Companion, on NPR. He was also from Minnesota and lived on my Street in St. Paul, about 4-5 blocks east. No one bothered him. August Wilson used to have coffee every morning in a local restaurant, he had his own booth. I would often be there, he was also left to himself. If someone wants attention, don't come here!!!
I agree. Reading their own books. I find it odd when authors don't do that. It's such a good way to connect when they read it themselves.
Ami, I think not all authors are possessed with that particular talent. Many are and do read their books. Matthew Perry did it better than anyone else could have because.....he's Matthew Perry!
