My Name is Sandra and I Have a Tablecloth Problem

Dawn the Bohemian calls it food porn.
I call it what I have in my life.

Today's lunch was a cold salad, something I've been making a lot lately.

Last evening an egg concoction, using lots of produce.

It's still really hot and humid but a break is in sight. My pickles are bubbling in the brine and I'm resisting the urge to grab one. I spent yesterday clearing out drawers in the laundry room and clearing my desk of papers I shouldn't have laid there in the first place. I have a tablecloth problem. I've given away at least twenty-five in the last decade. Going through this stuff I find I have at least that many still. Some I don't even remember. Mark tried to cover for me, saying I used to entertain a lot when we lived in Saint Paul. Thirty years ago! And no one needs anywhere near that many tablecloths. Here's where the problem is: I'm giving away one. I know. The next thing is dozens of old towels. What do I do with them? These I can let go, but they aren't something I would donate. If I tell you that I have been doing this clearing out for about fifteen years, would you believe me? Well, I have. When I say I don't like clutter, I don't. But when things are packed away, out of sight, it's not clutter. It's tidy hoarding. I hoard glass jars. I hoard the heavy plastic deli containers. The good thing there is the two delis in the area are now using the cheap ones. No more for me to add to the massive collection, which I must have because.....? I wasn't thinking about any of this until I got the brilliant idea to sort through and organize yesterday. Holy Hannah. I bet I still have clothes in my closet that my thigh wouldn't fit in the waistband of. But, you never know, right? Yah.

Well, at least these aren't items you can't bear to part with. So there's that. But there's a lot!

On the old towels, contact your local animal shelter. Ours is always looking for donations of old blankets and towels.

Boud, no they aren’t. I think I shopped a lot!

Jane, thank you for this information! It never occurred to me.

I make rags out of old towels...as for the tablecloths...I love them too and have way too many and never use them:(

I was going to say the animal shelter, too. I hoard craft supplies and toys.

I have two table cloths and one plastic table cloth [for craft stuff]. The two nice ones are used for decorations not on the table!

I use my Christmas one as a cover over a desk during the Xmas season and I used the lacey one as tree skirt for years.

My FIL came home once with a box of older towels that MIL rejected. I used them as they were those horrid 1970's orange and brown towels, but they were useful for animals and shop towels.

I need to clean my old towels out too! Why do I keep the raggedy looking ones and still use them?
LOL!

Sandra, you are not along. While I may not have quite as many table cloths, I do have more than needed considering that I hardly use them on the table, only placemats and I have more of those than used. All of mine are tucked away in a small chest in the dining area, so if out of sight, not clutter but "tidy hoarding" to use your term.

I too have "thinner" clothes in my closet because you do never know. These were kept because: they did fit and I've lost some weight, so now some fit again, most are better made then what's in stores now, and since i dislike shopping...losing weight and having them fit is like getting new clothes without the expense!

Far Side, I use a tablecloth twice a year, maybe. The towels, I'm embarrassed to admit how many there are, stuffed in plastic bags.

Ami, not the worst thing to hoard!

Val, you are a wise woman! I was going to put a hand towel away, looked at it's worn surface and wondered the same thing. I didn't keep it. Wow!

Beatrice, I don't use them, either. But, I keep them, cuz you just never know when you may need two dozen tablecloths! I will never fit into some of the clothes I have kept. Probably not any of them, honestly. It's good to know your new way of eating is showing results. That has to feel terrific.

I love that you added so much veg to the egg bake!

Clutter is clutter to me, even if packed away, though I also get what you're saying about not being able to see it.

I bought a tablecloth last Halloween and use it as a blanket on the couch. So fun.

Ivy, it was so packed with vegetables there were hardly any eggs!

It's amazing how clutter put away has become not clutter to me. This is a good use of a table cloth, very clever!
