Three of the fennel seeds I planted germinated.
Bill brought me the box of tomatoes. He said he will have a lot more if I want them.
I said I will take them. He also brought me a ice cream bucket of pickling cucumbers and some dill.
Today will be dedicated to fermenting pickles, roasting tomatoes and processing fennel fronds into pesto and cubes. The fronds on the fennel I grew are enormous. If you haven't used the fronds for pesto, give it a try, very good.
I mowed yesterday, thanks to the rain we had last week. It's the fourth or fifth time all season. I normally mow twice a week. All the flowering plants look worn out.
I'm being buzzed by a helicopter flying very low, back and forth. I have no idea why, but it is persisting. They are either looking for something or just being annoying. Maybe we are under observation.

Far Side, I got more than half of the tomatoes done and all of the fronds turned into pesto. I rearranged my refrigerator freezer and found more room!
Val, I will take all the tomatoes Bill wants to give me. I have a Roma and a purple cherry tomato, but I can use what he doesn't. I don't buy tomato sauce at all anymore because I process and freeze so many. Tomorrow will be pickles, I'm kind of worn out.

You aren't in spam, Boud. Lori had the same thing happen to her a few days ago. I looked in spam and she wasn't there. Some new quirk? I Really like fennel, two of the bulbs are BIG!

How do you look in spam? Great plans for the produce. As for the helicopter, the one around here that do what you describe are often from law enforcement. Thanks for your kind comments.
Whoa! You sure have a lot of processing to do with all those veggies! We still don't have one San Marzano tomato that is red....just cherry tomatoes. We generally freeze between 50 and 75 bags of sauce each year. When we made the dill pickles yesterday, we put in a ton of garlic. I have never fermented them the way you do. I mowed yesterday too....really enjoy doing it. Hopefully you will get more rain so your flowering plants can perk up.
About fennel: I like fennel seeds, don't like the vegetable. Wrong licorice context or something. Likewise Thai basil, great licorice flavor. But it's different again. I don't like licorice candy, wrong licorice! You'd think a person would like all the family members, but noooo. Picky.
I still have about 12 quarts and 10 pints to use up from last year of tomatoes that I canned. I'm just taking a break this year which is good. This weekend we are supposed to get HOT again.

Lori, I don't freeze nearly that much tomatoes! I've been liberally using the beautiful garlic, too.We are going to buy a compact refrigerator this week to store my pickles in. Fermented pickles can sit out in a cool place but they continue to ferment, so as you get to the last jars they are very sharp. I like them better than pickles in vinegar and they are good for the gut. Your pickling day was impressive!
Val, you have enough left that you can easily take a break. I used the last of mine a week ago. We are under a heat warning today, tomorrow cools some and then we have several scorchers again. No rain in sight.

Dawn, I don't can anymore, I freeze or ferment. But it's still preserving what you, or Bill, grow.
