I WENT TO FINISHING SCHOOL!
REALLY, I DID!
I was of the age when girls got packaged for marriage before women started to demand human rights. The beginnings of unrest had started to show itself, but it wasn't there yet. A properly raised young lady needed to know how to conduct herself. I came from a social background that believed daughters stayed home until they were handed over to a husband and the only reason a daughter went to college was to 'catch' a proper husband who could support her.

I got myself handed off to a husband a few years later and I got myself unhanded a few years after that. I was a disgrace, but I had developed a hard nose and I used it liberally. I have tempered that trait to a degree, but it is a firmly ingrained trait that I don't regret!
I thought this would give everyone a good laugh. If you click on the top image it will enlarge. It's rather amusing to read.

lol. I went to a wanna be snooty private school for some of the same reasons ~ & about as succesful. I see no reason to practise *social graces* on people I don't like for reasons that aren't good & who commit the unpardonable sin of being boring. I'm a funny sort of snob, but there you have it. *sigh*
I knew we had a connection, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Now I know, both had parents that tried to fit their square pegs into a round hole!
It certainly was a life experience. : )
BTW, I also took fencing in college. There simply was something about an epee...........
Oh, Sandra that is a hoot. Somehow, I am not altogether suprised.
I attended "White Gloves and Party Manners" in the 60's It was a school of etiquette and poise. I earned my degree, but forgot all about it until reading about your finishing school.
Upon reflection, I do believe I perform a curtsy prior to engaging the hoofpick on Sinclair's hind hooves. And perhaps when I am crossing the chains as I hitch up my horse trailer.
Sandra, did you find the fencing class helpful for managing hotwire, electric tape, and posts?
I googled "epee" and found it to be quite unlike a manure fork. You have to modify your technique so as not to have the apples roll off the tines.
I *knew* I should have taken fencing! All the better to skewer kids! :D
This is all so foreign compared to the way I grew up "down on the farm". I had barn chores to do everyday before school. I also had some education in fencing, but it required a pliers, wire, insulators and some knowledge of electrical current!
As a matter of fact, I always approach a broken fence with the proper stance and address "en guarde". : )
My aging body won't allow me to curtsy!
Ganeida, it's never too late to learn something new, but I don't think they'll teach you child skewering. : )
And yet Jean, we ended up at the same place!
That was too funny : ) I went to a 'charm' school when I was about 12 and I never could get the whole walk with a glass of water on your head. I have an egg head with straight hair! : ) I did learn that a lady washes her undies every night and hangs them to dry so that there is NEVER a pair of worn undies or stockings in the house after bed time! : )
Ash
Ashley, I was raised with that idea about underwear, isn't that strange. I grew up knowing ladies under garments as unmentionables. How different things have become.
