Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account. ~Oscar Wilde
We clinked, we did drink and we expressed hope for the coming year. We ate and I was in bed by 9:30! Nobody said I'm interesting. It looks as if 2009 arrived without my help, and so we face a day of work that will be liberally laced with conversation and humor. We have to find humor, for the task ahead is daunting. So, tally-ho and away we go!

Happy New Year!
christy :)
So do I, I rarely alter it! Happy New Year Christy.
We stayed up only because it sounded like the whole town was exploding! I could not believe the girls slept through it all. We had a few strageically placed buildings that blocked most of the fireworks but not the noise ! I think the fireworks went on from about 10 till 1 am last night. Goodness gracious. They are legal here so besides about 3 or 4 community events everyone and their brother was setting off fireworks! It was kind of festive but I was ready to sleep!
Have a great new year!
Ash
Happy New Year to you Sandra. I enjoy your blog and your wonderful quotes. The poem by Robert Burns is lovely and brings lots of nostalgic feelings.
Glad the word Hope is in your vocabulary these days, it is difficult to think of our world without hope. With that, I hope you have the best year yet.

Here is a funny Minnesota joke. Since I was born in Minneapolis, I thought could get away with sharing it. You have probably heard it.
"There are four seasons in Minnesota - almost winter, winter, still winter, and construction."
Ha - it is about the same here.
I'm borrowing mum's computer to wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR! We didn't clink or drink, were later to bed but had a nice time anyway. :)
Ashley, all that noise sounds like fun, unless you want to sleep. No one sleeps the sleep of babe's like babes, so I'm not surprised the girls slept through it!
Dianne, i am the original kvetcher, so it is normal for me to complain AND express hope at the same time.
: ) I am glad to have you stop in and if I can make you smile once in awhile, or perhaps wince on occasion, I'm glad!
d.r. is that a joke, I thought it was reality! Just like I know our state bird really is the mosquito!
Ganeida, I'm glad you could check in and that you are able to have a visit with your mother. It's a good thing you didn't clink, because then you must drink.
I wish a wonderful 2009 to everyone and I look forward to all of the interesting reading ahead.
Love the quote!
: ) Love the drink!
