Poetry Wednesday

A person who publishes a book willfully appears before the populace with his pants down. If it is a good book nothing can hurt him. If it is a bad book nothing can help him.  Edna St. Vincent Millay

Afternoon on a Hill

I will be the gladdest thing
   Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
   And not pick one.

I will look at cliffs and clouds
   With quiet eyes,
Watch the wind bow down the grass,
   And the grass rise.

And when lights begin to show
   Up from the town,
I will mark which must be mine,
   And then start down!

I'm glad you started doing this. I love poetry but tend to be a glutton. This way is better. I am forced to pay proper attention to one poem at a time. :) Love this one.

I thought it a nice contradiction to my "Poetry Of Outrage"!

I meant contrast, not contradiction. That's what I get when I'm thinking about several things at once!

I'm sorry to hear that Christy, but I'm sure you have your reasons.

I love this too. What an appropriate counter point to your previous post : ) I had a book of her poems a long time ago and really loved them. Ganeida is right it is nice to consider just one poem instead of trying to read a book poems like a novel. Bye for now!

I enjoy it because I read a little bit of poetry each week as I decide who to use and which poem. I haven't spent much time on poetry for a long time, so it's a nice, reflective spot in my day.
