Briefly

A brief buongiorno to you all. I have things to accomplish but want to read your words and stop by briefly with some of my own. I see many of you have mud and some have Spring. We have winter, it was zero this morning, high of 24F today. It will end. It will.

At this time cooking is my main activity so ..... well, it's what I have. Now that I'm off the Medical Mystery Tour. I thawed shrimp stock and plan to make shrimp risotto for dinner. Has anyone made biscuits with cake flour. I do sometimes and did yesterday. They come out very light.

I finished Beloved by Toni Morrison yesterday. I'm surprised I hadn't read it. I have thoughts, lots of them which I don't have time for now. I will say I still learn and feel shame.

The book was way better than the movie.

I've tried to read it and never really had the emotional stamina to go on.

The only flour I use, aside from stuff I grind myself from almonds and chickpeas, is whole wheat and ap. My flour repertoire is limited!

Hello from the Northern Tundra!

B&B, I read that. The movie was a flop.

Boud, it was tough, every time I think I know I find out I don't. I looked it up and it is one of the most banned books. It seems most, if not all of her books are on a banned list.

I use all kinds of flour. I like the ancient grains but you get a more dense loaf with them.

Far Side, hello up there!

Sandra, doing a quick catch up today on some of your previous posts and so glad you are feeling better and really in a cooking mode. That fish dish sounded so good. We are on a weight loss plan now, South Bean once again, so some of the wonderful foods we like will have to be forgotten for awhile. Thankfully, we can enjoy fish and really like shrimp😋

I will confess to never having read anything by Toni Morrison, but perhaps one day. Right now, I am reading mysteries, not so much the cozy ones.

Beatrice, it was much, much better than I anticipated. I did the SB Diet in the early 2000s.

I have not, either. She is poetic, brutal in honesty, and there is a rawness that hurts. As it should. I thought as I was reading it that it is probably a banned book. It is.

I appreciated the rawness in the book. I hope your risotto was good and I;m glad you are in a better frame of mind.

e, I put the risotto off until tomorrow. We had the leftover fish pie.

I plan to read more of her books but I need a rest for a bit.

A banned book would interest me only for the fact that it was banned...however I just ordered:
Travelers to Unimaginable Lands: Stories of Dementia, the Caregiver, and the Human Brain

which may be a really interesting book to read. Most of what I read is not challenging but usually mysteries or stories that take me somewhere else for a short while.
I do have many books on plants, rocks, wildflowers, mushrooms, and mosses though.

I know you would have those books, Val. Toni Morrison pulled no punches which made me know the book would be seen as dangerous by certain people.

I used to read a lot of books regarding my mother's disorder and about growing up with a parent like that. It did me a lot of good. Hope you get some insight you don't already have.
